Renee was 22 now and the world had lost all color in her mind, everything was black and grey. She had fallen in such deep depression over the years, there was no point for color. The only color she sees is red. When she looks in the mirror she sees a red area on her chest which she assumes is her heart. It seemed to her like she was in a dystopian universe when in reality, everybody could see the color she couldn't.
Renee had to work two jobs to support her and her father. She worked at McDonald's and a tiny local business shop. She got paid minimum wage at both jobs, only barely paying for food and shelter. She didn't have any friends, she just didn't have the time. She was always working or doing schoolwork. She usually tried to avoid her dads wrath, but it was usually to no avail. She had marks on her arms and legs from his abuse. Her only escape from the madness that was her life was her book. When she was eight years old her father got her the only present she had ever gotten, that book was her mothers diary. She read it over and over everyday.
One day on her way to work she ran into someone on accident, dropping all of her things. The stranger leaned down to help at the same time Renee did. Renee and the strangers hands brushed against each other as they both reached for Renee's mothers diary. Renee picked it up and put it in her bag.
"Hi, my name is Marcus. What's yours?"
