Chapter 18

The Third Task

"So, like Sirius, Dumbledore thinks there's another war on the horizon?" Sokka asked, as the gaang sat in the Gryffindor Common Room. Aang nodded, as Harry's brain continued to fill with thoughts, and he wished he could siphon them out. "And he trusts Snape?" Ron asked. "Even though he was a Death Eater?" "Yes" said Harry.

"Rita Skeeter" Hermione said. "Don't tell us you're still worrying about her" said Toph. "I'm not" said Hermione. "Just, what she said to me in the Three Broomsticks. She must have reported Bagman's trial, she knew he passed information to the Death Eaters." "But, he didn't pass information on purpose" said Ron. "And Fudge thinks Maxime attacked Crouch?" "Yeah, only because he disappeared near her carriage" said Harry.

"And, repeat what happened in the Spirit World" said Hermione. "Koh took Kila's face" said Aang. "We can no longer talk to her. Whatever secrets she knew are lost now. Someone is in league with Koh, and he took Kila's face so she wouldn't tell me the truth." "How many faces has Koh stolen?" Ron asked. "Probably thousands" said Aang. "He's been around since the beginning of time." "Well, you said he helped you before" said Ron. 'Maybe he can give us answers. I know he's not supposed to, but if we offer him something, maybe it'll happen."

Aang looked down at the fire, thinking about Kila, and how her last year was helping him, and how it was his fault she was gone. "We should get started on the Impediment Curse tomorrow" said Hermione. "You guys need to learn it for the task." They nodded, as they all dispersed to bed.

Once again, they headed down to an unused classroom to practice with Mariko. The others were supposed to be studying for exams, but they didn't seem to want to leave the others. "It's fine" said Hermione, though she seemed a bit frightened. "At least we'll have top marks in Defense Against the Dark Arts." "Yeah" said Sokka. "This is the first spell I didn't mess up on my first try." He made a bee stop in midair, but as it became normal again, it buzzed after Sokka, who screamed and ran off.

The students in the school were all excited and tense again, as the Third Task drew nearer. Both Aang and Harry were practicing spells and bending at every available moment. Professor McGonagall even allowed the gaang to use her classroom at lunchtime to practice spells. After the mastered the Impediment Curse, they went on to the Reductor Curse. "This could destroy any sort of earthbending obstacles" Hermione said, as they chose that spell. After that one, they discovered the Four-Point Spell, which would allow their wands to point north, which would let them know if they were going the right way in the maze.

As Hermione blasted through Harry's Shield Charm one day, Sokka stood by the window, looking out. "Hey" he said. "Get over here." The other came over, as he said "What's Malfoy doing?" Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle were outside underneath a tree, and it looked like Malfoy was talking into his hand. "Looks like he's using a walkie-talkie" said Harry. "A whatie-whatie?" Bao asked. "Muggle object" said Hermione. "And they don't work in Hogwarts. Come on, Harry, let's work on that Shield Charm again." Sokka, meanwhile, watched the three Slytherin's walk off, curious.

Sirius began to send daily owls, trying to get Harry and Aang through the last task. Sirius kept on assuring them not to worry about things outside of the school. Harry's nerves got larger as the task drew closer, but he felt a lo more confident then he did for the first two. The tournament would at last be over, and if all went well, like Aang thought, Mariko would be standing victorious by the end.

On the morning of the third task, breakfast was very loud and busy. All students inside of the Great Hall were doing last minute studying for their exams, as Aang and Harry watched the gaang multi-task in eating breakfast and studying for History of Magic. Hermione's newspaper arrived, as well as a good luck card from Sirius, and as Heremione took the paper, Aang got a glimpse of the title: Two Triwizard Champions "Disturbed and Dangerous" by Rita Skeeter.
