Chapter 11

The New Task

After dinner that night, the gaang went to the Owlery to let Sirius know what had happened during the first task. At this time, they filled Ron in with all Sirius had told them about Karkaroff. As Ron snatched Pigwidgeon from a post, he said "I don't know how any of the other tasks could be as dangerous as this one. I bet you two have a good chance at winning the tournament."

"Speaking of which" said Katara. "You guys do realize there can be only one winner of the tournament, right? If it does come down to the two of you, what will you do?" Harry and Aang looked at each other. "You can take it, then" said Harry. "I've got plenty of money." "I don't need it" said Aang. "You're a wizard. You need it more than me."

Harry looked at Aang, who simply said "I'm not budging. You can take it." Harry understood his stand- point, and nodded. "But, if it only comes down to you, you will take it, all right?" Harry asked. Aang smiled, and said "Okay." "We shouldn't be thinking about the end of the tournament, anyway" said Hermione. "If that was the first task, I hate to think what's next." "Right little ray of sunshine, aren't you?" said Ron. "You and Trelawney should get together some time." "Ah, I am so happy you're back" said Sokka. "The more sarcasm, the better!"

That night, a party was held in Gryffindor Tower in honor of Aang, Harry, and Mariko. "Is this usually what happens when Gryffindor's celebrate?" Mariko asked, as the party raged on. "Yeah, pretty much" Aang answered. "You should've been here when we won the Quidditch Cup last year" said Sokka. "That party was legendary!"

Sokka went off, as Mariko faced Aang. "I wanted to thank you for telling me about the dragons. I probably would have died without your help." "It was no problem" said Aang. "Anyway" said Matiko. 'I owe you one for that" and she gave him a bright smile.

"You three should open the eggs!" said George, tossing the three eggs to the champions. The common room quieted down, as Aang, Harry, and Mariko simultaneously ripped open the eggs. There was nothing inside, but when it was opened to the world, it let out a loud, horrifying screech. Everyone grabbed their ears as the sound raged on. "Shut it!" shouted Bao, and Aang barely heard him as he swiped his hand, and they all closed with airbending. After a moments silence, the Gryffindors went back to talking, as Aang turned to Mariko. "Whatever that means, it doesn't get me excited for the next task."

As Katara patted Mo-Mo's head, who sat on the couch, she heard Hermione talking to Fred. "Did you get all this food from the kitchen?" Hermione asked. "Yeah" said Fred. "Told them I was a bit puckish and they showerd me with food." "How do you get there?" she asked casually. "Easy" Fred said. "Concealed door behind a painting of fruit. Just tickly the pair and-why?" he added, suspiciously. "Oh, no reason" said Hermione, walking off.

She went over to Katara, who asked "Planning on leading a house-elf rebellion?" "Not exactly" said Hermione. 'I just want to see them-see the conditions they're in down there. Will you help me?" Katara smirked, and said "I don't have an issue with your liberation thing, and I've always wanted to see a bunch of house-elves so, yeah." "Excellent!" Hermione exclaimed.

December came in quickly, sending a cold chill over Hogwarts. Aang, Harry, and Mariko did not spend time trying to work out the clue of the egg. In each of their minds, the second task was ages away, and they had school work to focus on. They didn't need to just jump into the next task that quickly.

One night, after another Divination class in which Trelawney predicted again that Harry would die, the gaang headed down to dinner, when they came across Hermione in the hall. "Katara" Hermione said. "You're never going to believe what's happened!" "What?" Katara asked. "Just, come with me!" Hermione said excitedly, and the two ran off. "Well then" said Ron. "She seemed pretty eager, didn't she?" "Probably some weird girl thing" said Sokka. "Maybe they met some guys." Aang frowned at this, as he led the others off.
