Second Thoughts

Images flashed in Korra's mind. She tossed and turned in a feverish way, the bed sheets wet with sweat. In her mind, she was back in that dark room. Seeing herself in the chains, being pulled back under, the metallic smell of blood blotting out any other sense.

She sat up breathing heavily, and noticed Asami gone from the bed. It was around midnight, and Korra's already tense muscles tightened. She reached for her phone on the bedside table, turning it on and noticed a message from her wife.

She relaxed as she found was safe, just out for a few drinks with the soft green eyed boy they knew as Bolin. Korra rolled off the bed and stumbled to the bathroom where she emptied her stomach and then started the water of the shower. She rested her forehead against the cool tile and closed her eyes.

A recession wasn't what she needed right now. If Asami was really serious about the whole baby thing, she needed to get her thoughts and feelings in order.

By the time Asami was home, Korra was gone. All that the blue eyed girl had left was a note saying she'd be back as soon as she could. Asami bit her lip, guilted for leaving her alone at night when she knew the younger girl often had panic attacks.

Korra closed her eyes and took a deep breath, the chilly air a reminder of when she was a child and her parents. A faint smile turned the corner of her lips upwards. Sometimes all it took was the remembrance of home, who you really were to cure you.

The stormy eyed officer urged her dog forward at a slow pace, giving her time to think and go over things. Thinking about it, she didn't know if she was stable enough for a family yet. What if she broke in front of the kid? It'd show she was weak, and make the kid wonder what it had done wrong.

Bolin was drunk. Not a little drunk, very drunk. His first mistake, was getting in the car with someone he didn't know. His second mistake, was acting like a smart ass to the person driving him.

It was a blonde haired man, with kind brown eyes and a warm voice. He turned in his seat to speak with the green eyed boy, a light smile showing his softer features.

"Where can I take you?"

Bolin looked up at him and snorted.

"Obvious...ely..home."

The taller man frowned slightly, his eyebrows drawing together.

"Sir....you're...drunk."

"Well no shite goldilocks."

The man turned then, tightening his grip on the wheel until his knuckles were white and drove off.

Bolin snickered and rolled his eyes, messing with something on the back of his seat.

Korra's vision was black. Her body temperature was low, but high enough to keep her alive and breathing. She had fallen from Naga when the dog was spooked, and was trapped under a pile of snow. The snow was piled heavily on her chest, and she wasn't sure she was going to make it.

Asami sat in front of the fireplace, a mug of hot coffee in her hand. She was reading the evening paper, since Korra had went out for a walk. She was concerned about the younger woman, this behavior reminded her of the years before when Korra had ptsd.

The blonde haired man kept driving until he reached an ally way, stopping and turning the lights off to his car. He remained still in his seat, the silence throwing chills down Bolin's spine even in his drunken state.

"This s'not my house."

The blonde haired man snickered low, raising his hands to crack his nuckles. He had suffered from abuse in his past, and Bolin had brought that back to his mind.

Bolin shivered, trying to unbuckle himself but couldn't clearly see the buckle in his drunken state. He cried out as the blonde haired man began blood bending his body into fatal angles, laughing hysterically as blood ran from Bolin's mouth.

Time seemed to freeze as metal cables smashed through the drivers window of the car and pin the man to the steering wheel, making him release his hold on Bolin.

Bolin fell on the floor of the car, gasping, his whole body aching and bleeding. His vision blurry, he looked up and saw Lin's face in the dim light of the moon. Her normally sharp, stotic features were twisted with emotion as she lifted Bolin out of the car and onto her shoulder.

Korra laid in the snow. Completely quiet as it continued to fall. Her breathing was slow, moments in between each heart beat. She was the avatar, she should be bending up out of there. Did she really want too? Why would she do that only to return to the unsure?

Naga whimpered as she sniffed along the hill, looking for any signs of her dark haired rider. She started digging, and soon came to Korra's leg. Gingerly, she kept digging until the stormy eyed officer appeared.

Korra's skin had turned a light blue, signaling hypothermia. Naga laid beside her and tried to warm her by licking her face.

Korra opened her eyes slightly when she felt a warm prickly sensation on her cheek, noticing her large dog trying to keep her warm. It hurt to move, but she shifted into Naga's warm fur and once again fell asleep.

Kya's healing hands worked quickly over Bolin's bleeding, bruised body. Her expression was set in a permanent frown as she examined the damage done by the cab driver. Blood bending was still outlawed in the city at this time, and she wondered what her mother would think.

Lin paced back and fourth, watching Kya's hands move across Bolin's body. Her own body was tense with worry, knowing the blonde haired man had done significant damage on the green eyed boy. She only hoped she had gotten there before it was too late.

Korra was on top of Naga, as Naga was racing home. Her feet made loud thudding noises on the pavement as she kept running. At this moment, Korra knew nothing but the cold. The freezing feeling she felt in her head to her toes. It seemed as it everything had disappeared and it was just her and this feeling. Right now, there was no room to be stressed out.

(Hi guys! Sorry this chapter is a little shorter than I normally do. I apologize for the long waits on updates, I'm busy with school just lately. Hope you enjoy!)
