Asami was positioned under one of the bigger police cruisers, a wrench in her hand. She breathed deeply, the familiar smell of grease and metal calming her still tense nerves. She worked the wrench back and fourth, trying to unscrew one of the bolts underneath. The fact that Korra was hiding her feelings again had hurt the mechanic deeply, and she had needed a way to let it out.
Korra sat on the roof of the house, a bottle of whiskey in her hand once more. She tipped the bottle to her lips, taking a long drink of the clear liquid. It wasn't her fault she didn't want to talk about what was going on inside her head, and she felt that her wife should respect that. She leaned back on her elbows, staring at the light blue sky.
Bolin climbed up into the roof, and stood with his arms crossed over his chest in front of the young officer. His features were neutral, but from the way his usually relaxed jaw muscles were twitching, it wasn't hard to tell he was pissed off.
"What exactly are you doing up here, Korra?"
Korra looked up at the boy with a bored expression, shrugging as she took another long drink.
"What's it look like I'm doing?"
Bolin moved forward in a flash and snatched the bottle of whiskey, throwing it off the roof. It shattered against the pavement below, the remaining liquid darkening the side of the building.
"I think you're avoiding your problems and pushing your wife away. That's not gonna get you anywhere, and drinking all the time isn't gonna solve anything."
Korra sighed and sat up, running a hand through her messy short hair.
"Bolin you don't know shit about what I'm going through, give me a break for once."
"Damn it Korra, no one knows what you're going through because you're being a stubborn ass about it and pushing away anyone that cares about you."
Korra stood quickly, furious tears steaming down her cheeks as she rose her voice.
"I'm scared Bolin, I'm scared that they're coming for me again. I'm scared that if I look too weak Asami won't wanna put up with me. I'm scared and tired of the sleepless nights I lay awake because every time I close my eyes I see the man that raped me."
Bolin sighed as Korra sank to the roof and continued to cry. His muscles and features instantly relaxed and softened as he pulled the stormy eyed girl into his arms and held her tightly.
Asami smiled proudly at the police cruiser. Not only had she repaired the under side of the car, but she has taken a look inside and fixed the model. It had all the latest technology, including scanners and sensors that could detect body heat. She had a lot of ideas, but hadn't had the time to start on it. Today was the day she finally had the time.
Lin looked at the police cruiser in astonishment. This type of technology could take her force up in the world. They could be called to new parts of the city to help with investigations. She hugged the mechanic tightly and took it out for a drive.
Bolin watched Korra as she sat in a dark corner of the house, completely quiet. Ever since she had opened up to Bolin and spilled everything out that she was feeling, she hadn't wanted to be touched.
The caring boy had noticed that Korra had started wearing long sleeved shirts since the young officers fight with Asami, and knew that it could only mean one thing. Korra had started cutting herself again.
The young officer wasn't doing it for attention, and she sure as hell wasn't doing it because she felt bad for herself. She was doing it because the immediate pain she felt, the warm blood that ran down her arm distracted her from the thoughts running around in her head.
