Joey's POV~
"Shane!"
He stuck his head into the living room. "What is it?" he called.
"Can you get my laptop charger for me?" I whined. "Seriously, I cannot get through editing this video. I'm so freaking fed up."
"Here," Shane tossed me the tangle of cable. "Knock yourself out."
"Thank you," I stretched down, plugging the prongs into the creamy white outlets. "Now come over here and kiss me."
Shane laughed and walked over, bending down and doing as I commanded. "Easy there, tiger," he murmured, smiling into my face.
"Sorry," I sighed. "I've just been really... like, what's the word? Aggressive, almost. I don't even know why."
"It's just your time of the month," Shane joked.
"Sha-ane," I rolled my eyes and shoved his arm gently. "Stop it. I'm serious."
He stood up, grabbing his coat. I narrowed my eyes. "Where are you going?"
He exhaled. "I told you earlier, a few of my friends and I are getting together to see a movie tonight."
"Oh..." I couldn't conceal my disappointment. "Can I come?"
"Well..." Shane ran a hand through his hair. "We've just been planning this for so long. I just need a little me time."
I said nothing, just frowning. "Ok..." I bit my lip. "I get it. You need some sp-space."
"It's not like that," Shane sighed. "It's just... you're always hanging out with your friends. I thought I'd be able to put together one evening and not have plans come crashing down."
"Fine, then go," my voice rose as I spoke. "I don't need you. See if I care."
"Joey, that's not what I meant-"
I folded my laptop shut, standing up and marching off into the bedroom, avoiding Shane's gaze at all costs.
"Fine, then be that way!" he yelled back, pulling the door open and stomping out.
I sat down on the bed, putting my head in my hands and starting to cry. Jesus, my emotions really were over the top. I was frustrated and Shane, but also at myself. I shouldn't have been so hard on him... I already regretted fighting, even just a few seconds afterhis departure.
I stood up, rushing to the front door. I swung it open, stepping out into the hall. "Shane?" I called. He was no where to be seen. God, how I hated fighting with him. I loved him so much... I couldn't bear the thought of him believing the things I'd said. What was wrong with me? I didn't feel right.
Feeling my phone pinned between the waistband of my pants and my hip, my stomach twisted with guilt. My family had tried to call a few times. I knew it was about me being gay, but I could never bring myself to pick up. Was that why I felt so bad now? Had all the guilt just built up and was it now boiling over?
I turned back from the doorway and returned my laptop in the main room. Sawyer was staring expectantly at me from his doorway, his arms crossed and his mouth taught.
"I heard you yelling," he noted. "I just wanted to make sure everything was alright."
"Shane and I just had a little fight over nothing," I sighed. "I feel really bad."
"Don't beat yourself up over it. He's Shane." If I had been more so in my right mind, I might have recognized the scorn in Sawyer's voice.
"Not like that," I shook my head. "Like, I feel sick. I don't know what it is."
"Take some Advil or something," Sawyer shrugged. "Always works for me."
I nodded, "Good idea." He followed me into the bathroom as I poured myself a glass of water and popped a few pills into my mouth.
"So..." Sawyer leaned against the doorframe. "Wanna head out off dinner somewhere? The two of us, just like old times."
"Mmm..." I closed my eyes, rubbing my forehead. "Ok. Just give me a minutes for the medicine to kick in."
"Sure," he straightened up. "I wanted to get a video posted tonight. I'll just head over and finished uploading it. Think you'll be ready in a few minutes,?"
"Yeah, I'm sure," I shrugged, fixing my hair in the mirror. "I'm just gonna go get changed. Gotta freshen up a bit."
I headed into my room once again, tossing my sweater off over my head and slipping out of my lounge pants. I grabbed a long sleeved shirt and slid on some skinny jeans, feeling a bit uninspired for my outfit.
I ran a comb through my hair, trying my best to spike it up like I usually did. I slipped on some shoes and returned to where Sawyer was working.
"All set?" he asked, looking up.
"Yeah, I think so."
Sawyer turned off his computer and got to his feet. "We better get to steppin' then." In one swift movement, Sawyer wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me towards him.
Boy, would be regret that.
As his hand hooked around my side, fiery pain shot up me, causing me to yell out in pain and drop to the floor, curling in on myself. I bit my lip-hard-trying to get the agony in my side to cease. This was worse than before. Tears were squeezed out of my eyes and I wrapped my arms around myself, digging my fingers into my skin.
"Joey!" Sawyer bent beside me, rubbing my back with one hand. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I completely forgot!"
The sharp stabs from my side were so much that I felt like I was going to throw up. I was crying full on now, unable to control it. It was just too much for me to handle. "Sawyer..." I sobbed. "Something... something's wrong..." With his help, I pried my shirt up off my side, and we both went white at what we saw.
Streaks of dark red outlines my veins from all directions around my wound, tracing nearly up to my chest. My stomach dropped to the floor as I knew what had to be done. I exchanged a look with Sawyer and handed him my phone.
I could hear the pleasant voice on the other line. "911, what is your emergency?" Sawyer stood up and went into the other room to talk to them, probably so I wouldn't worry any more than I already was. Still, of the conversation, I could only make out two words:
Blood poisoning.
