*Two days later...*

So...today is my birthday. I'd always dreamed of a, massive birthday bash. Maybe not as intensive as Zara's, but to have the feeling that I may be actually becoming an adult.

But it doesn't even feel that way...

So here I am, in my house in London. Sitting in the middle of an empty space that was once my room. Everything is being packed away. We're leaving for Manchester this afternoon.

Todd? Well...Mum definitely never wants to see him again. However, she got a new place in Manchester, and now she wants to live there. Apparently, she got this big job, and it will be 'more convenient' for Gina's boarding school.

I'm just staring outside at the truck that is loading the last of our things into it.

Sigh.

Just then, Perri comes in.

I don't even look at him.

"Why are you sitting in here, birthday girl?" He says. "You know you still have time to see everyone before you leave."

I know they're organising this stupid leaving gathering, but that isn't going to change anything.

He sits down next to me.

"So...this...was your room," he says.

"Yeah..." I say. "I don't want to leave."

"I don't want you to leave either," he says.

He looks around the room.

"Why are there tally marks on the walls?" He asks.

"Oh..." I say. "I used to count...how many times my parents fought..."

Perri just nods.

"And over there..." I say, pointing to the other side of the room. "That was how many times I cried..."

"Wow..." Perri says.

Well over a hundred.

"Well..." Perri says. "I haven't given you a birthday present, but...here you go..."

"You have..." I say, smiling.

"I know...but now I want to give you another one..." He says.

"What is it now?" I say.

"I wrote you something..." He says.

"Like a poem?" I ask.

"Something like that..." He says.

He gets a piece of paper out of his pocket.

"Why did you write it?..." I say.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, it's kind of just going to make me more sadder..."

"Well, have you not realised we've been dating for over a year now..."

I pause.

"No..." I say. "Has it really been that long?"

"Yes..." Perri says.

"And it's been one roller coaster year hasn't it?"

"I don't care...if the roller coaster goes out of control and crashes into a wall..."

I laugh.

"As long as I get to spend it with you..."

He holds my hand, which makes me want to cry.
