Chapter 4
Robin and I walk slowly amongst the crowd. Each of us has changed out of our old clothes. I wear my light green t-shirt with my darker green pants. My navy cloak's hood is pulled over my face. I kept my hair in a bun, not wanting anyone to recognize it. Robin is wearing his white shirt and brown pants. His hood is pulled over also. We walk into the court yard, seeing the two monsters on the steps. Guy has a bruise on his face. Serves him right. The Sheriff seems to be smiling. That son of a bitch. Smiling. I look at Robin, wondering if he saw the Sheriff. His face is blank. I'm surprised no one has noticed us yet, a lot of Locksley villagers have come. Even Will and Luke decided to come. We stand further in the back. Guy seems to be looking for something. Us I'm guessing. Robin noticed Guy and tenses.
"Robin, what do you think he is looking for?"
"The same people who kicked his ass."
I couldnt help but laugh. He smiles hearing my laugh. Some guards turn and I quickly stop. My guess is Guy told his guards to search for us also.
"Peasants of Nottingham,I, your Sheriff, find this man guilty of betraying the crown. The punishment of this crime is death!" The Sheriff yells, smirking.
Guy steps forward
"We are looking for this man's two children. We are looking for a girl with black hair, blue eyes and about 12 years of age. We are looking for a boy of 15 with brown hair and blue eyes. These peasants are to be known as outlaws and who turns them in will be awarded."
"Great. Now we got a bounty." I whisper to Robin
He nods and keeps watching Guy.
"If anyone protects them, or hides information about them. They will be punish like an outlaw." He threats the crowd.
I cant believe it! Punishing those for helping orphans!
Guy looks towards us, scanning each of us. I reach for Robin's hand and squeezes it. I fear he will find us. Father used to say our eyes always made us stand out of the crowd.
"Bring out the prisoner" yells the Sheriff.
I watch as a weary, hurt man walks out. His shirt and pants torn to shreds.
"Dad... Oh no." I whisper.
Robin tenses up even more. I see his eyes harder. I feel someone step behind us. I feel a hand squeeze my shoulder. I turn to see Marian. She smiles down at me. I nod and turn my attention back to my broken father. I force my hands into fits, watching the Sheriff bet my father even more. Robin takes a step but os brought back by Marian. I need to help my father!
I try to move but my legs become metal, watching them throw my father onto his knees, the drums start beating.
My feet are lifted off the ground as Robin picks me up. I hug him tightly, not wanting to see the horror. I close my eyes but I can still sense whats going on.
The smell of fear.
The taste of death in the air.
The sound of the drums, matching my heart beat.
I turn my head to look with one eye, the last look my father will have on Earth. I see the sword be raised. My body begins to shake, trying to hold back the tears. Robin hugs me tighter.
Than, silence.
I turn around to see my father body lying on the ground. His eyes still open.
"No!" I scream causing everyone to turn.
Guy turns and sees us.
"Guards! Get them!"
Suddenly me and Robin are running out of Nottingham. Away from our dead dad. Guy an his guards are hot on our tails. Robin and I jump over bushes and fallen trees. Guy and his guards, not used to the forest, trip and fall over each other.
"A hood will be waiting for you Robin! Robin hood!" Yells Guy as w get away
"And you're little sister too!"
We keep running until we are out of breath. Robin turns to me.
"What were you thinking!"
"Im sorry! I wasn't even thinking!"
"You almost got us killed!"
"I know!"
"What do you think Dad would have done?"
I couldnt help it. I fell to the ground and started to cry. Robin, who realizes he want to far, drops next to me and cradles me.
"I'm so sorry Robin. I'm soo sorry." I sob.
"Its alright."
I cry into his shirt, the only family I have left.
"Its not fair." I say.
"Nothing is fair anymore."
"I want everything back to the way it was."
"We all want that."
"Im sorry"
"Shhh. Its okay."
I stayed in his arm all night. The next morning we went further into the forest where our horses grazed. We made camp and settled in.
"So how you liking it?" Robin asked while cooking dinner.
"Liking what?" I ask, staring into the fire.
"Being an outlaw."
I shrug, not knowing the answer.
"We cant get our old lives back."
"I know."
"The Sheriff will be after us now."
"Yup."
"You ready to win the game?"
".....Yay."
