If it wasn’t for Tiffany’s sniffing and the sound of Taeyeon’s lips constantly pressed on her trembling left hand softly, the drive to Taeyeon’s mansion would be filled with nothing but the sounds of the pouring rain, the car engine, and the working window wiper, as the two women seemed to be way too tired to say a thing.

When they finally reached their destination, Taeyeon quickly ran to Tiffany’s side and opened the door before holding her hand gently and leading her in to the living room.

“Wait here,” she demanded softly and was about to let Tiffany’s hand go in order to switch the lamps on. However Tiffany laced their fingers tighter, which made Taeyeon stop and look up at Tiffany’s face.

In spite of the darkness, due to the clapping lightning outside that flashed light every now and then through the full-length window at the living room, she could see the younger girl was biting her own lips in anxiety and her swollen eyes were still teary.

“.. Don’t leave me,” Tiffany asked hoarsely, close to pleading.

The sight of the frightened and fragile Tiffany broke Taeyeon’s heart into pieces. From the very first time she laid her eyes on the beautiful lady in front of her, she had badly wanted to protect the girl, yet she had almost failed to do so.

She was mad. She was really mad. Not only at the immoral drunken bastard who had caused this misery, but mostly at herself, for being reckless and putting her girlfriend in danger. If only she had agreed on abandoning the party, if only she had stayed with Tiffany, if only she had waited for her outside the bar, if only she hadn’t let the girl wander alone.. and other ‘if only’ started consuming Taeyeon’s mind mercilessly.

She realized that she was just being rather unreasonable, but like she had admitted, this girl, Hwang Tiffany, had made her so hot-headed and emotional.

Fuck rationality. Fuck logic.

Tiffany was sad. Tiffany was scared. For that, Taeyeon needed someone to blame. So she blamed herself, for letting the younger girl—whom she loved dearly—experience a hideous, traumatic event that would probably turn into her worst nightmare if she had been even a few seconds late.

If only she had stayed by her side all the time.

If only she had been the first one to go out of the bar.

If only..

“.. Taeyeon?” Tiffany called weakly, aware of Taeyeon’s painful stare.

Taeyeon sighed as she pulled Tiffany into a tight embrace. She closed her eyes as she let her rapid heartbeat slowen down. Tiffany’s slender arms immediately hugged her back, with almost the same level of warmth. They stayed in silence for some moments, relishing each other’s presence as the rain poured harder and the thunder occasionally clapped loudly outside.

When they finally broke the hug, Tiffany carefully caressed Taeyeon’s cheek and frowned at the fresh cut on the corner of her lips. She brushed a finger on Taeyeon’s lower lip, attentively avoiding the cut.

“Does it hurt?” she asked quietly, almost sounded like a whisper.

Taeyeon kissed Tiffany’s index finger which was lingering on her lips and shook her head slightly.

“Are you hurt?” Taeyeon asked back, staring right at the younger girl’s reddened eyes.

Tiffany shook her head in response before leaning forward, closing her eyes and capturing Taeyeon’s lips with hers. The older girl winced a bit when she felt the latter’s tongue brushing her wound repeatedly and soon she realized, Tiffany was intentionally doing that.
