For Hwang Tiffany, Kim Taeyeon was..
Kim Taeyeon was sometimes like a buzzing, annoying repetitive alarm tone that made her jolt up in annoyance, but somehow instead of dismissing it, she’d choose to put the snooze over and over again.
Tiffany sniffled as she heaved a sigh for the umpteenth time. She took a glance at the lonesome wooden clock; July 31, 11.35 PM.
Three days before the crash
Tiffany stirred and groaned in annoyance as she extended her right arm sluggishly, still with her eyes shut tight, trying to reach her ringing phone. When her hand finally got a grasp of the rectangular thing, she brought it to her face and narrowed her half-lidded eyes even more upon facing the screen brightness.
The screen showed the name of the caller and she immediately answered it, put it on her left ear and felt stuck somewhere between unconsciousness, aggravation, and yet, giddiness.
There was rustling sound on the other line and soon a cheerful familiar voice spoke,“Tif—“
“YAH!” Tiffany snapped hoarsely, still closing her eyes albeit her eyebrows furrowed in exasperation. “ARE YOU CRAZY? IT’S FREAKIN’ THREE IN THE MORNING, KIM TAEYEON!”
There was a few seconds of deafening silence on the other line, and Tiffany could imagine Taeyeon was rubbing her dear ear and distancing the phone from it after being shouted at as soon as the line connected. We all knew how loud Hwang Tiffany was, even Tiffany herself did.
When she got no answer from the latter but only rustling sound and people talking, Tiffany decided to speak again, this time a bit softer, “Taeyeon? You still there?”
A wave of guilt brushed her when she still didn’t hear Taeyeon’s voice. Was the latter pissed? Was she being too rude?
“Tae—“
Just then she heard an unfamiliar female voice, with a rather distinct accent, followed by Taeyeon’s chuckle and cute English.
“It’s okay, Miss Kim, I can help you bring those—“ the stranger suggested, but cut by Taeyeon’s soft denial.
“No, thank you, Miss. A beautiful woman like you shouldn’t bother to bring these heavy things—I can manage.”
Tiffany’s sleepy eyes shot open at the words. She sat upright and started huffing loudly through her nostrils as she could imagine her girlfriend winking at the stranger—who was probably blushing right now. Who wouldn’t, after getting a wink from Kim Taeyeon?
Along with the sounds of heels clicking and constant rustling, she heard the sound of the wheeled suitcase being dragged on a clear surface—marble floor, probably?
“Ah, Tiffany—“
“YAH, WHAT WAS THAT? DID YOU JUST FLIRT WITH ANOTHER WOMAN?”
Then she heard Taeyeon snigger, which made her patience grow thinner.
“What’s so funny? Are you calling me at dawn just to let me listen to you flirting to another woman?”
“I’m sorry, baby. I really forget about the time difference.”
Coming was a brief pause and Tiffany could guess the latter was probably taking a glance at her wristwatch.
“Um, it’s still around 8 PM here, and I just want to tell my gorgeous girlfriend that I’ve arrived safely at the hotel and I’m already missing her so much.”
