Twelve days of Christmas,
Twelve nights of star gazing
Twelve hallelujas
Twelve days for lazing
Around the house
Or anywhere warm
Twelve chances for good mirth
To repair bridges that are worn.
One dozen names too hard to recall
One dozen items on my shopping list
One dozen memory aids to interpret that lung film
Are you starting to catch my drift?
One heap of pills to swallow, they get stuck
Some of these poisons require biological activation
One tastes so bad that I gag and almost wretch
But I persist if they can lead me to salvation
Twelve steps to recover, twelve more and then some
These steps take place mostly inside
My cells cry out for a twelve day vacation
Let's go on a thrill ride!
Before my twelve days are up.
