Back to back is how we stand
Listening to each other's woes
Breaking down
Not willing to turn.
Why can't you be first?
Me? What about you?
So long has it been like this
So long have we felt the burn.
Of disappointment and ire
Of longing for a peace
Hear me O Lord
Why is my life in shambles?
One sip then two
And a few more
Just to ease the tension
Not more than that
Hey, what are you doing?
Are you drinking again?
Put that down now!
Are you a child, a spoiled brat?
Back to your old ways, are you?
Back to your usual...
Back to back is how we relate
Back to you, back to your drink.
Can you ever overcome?
Can you refrain?
How can you live life dry
When there is so much pain?
There is so much to gain
If we can move from back to back
To face each other
See each other and feel the air that we breathe
It is warm and reminds us
That we both share common interests
A desire for love and peace
And freedom - this is your test.
Can you stop at one sip?
If not, can you sip at life instead?
Can you stop from turning to drink?
If not, can you drink to us with your breath?
One sip is all it takes
To turn our backs on each other
One sip is one sip too many
Unless it is your last.
