Harkness, in truth, has been looking for a way to repay the Joker for what the crime lord did to him by putting him in prison. He had not wanted that second stint in Belle Reve since the guards there had tortured him and the other members of the Suicide Squad so mercilessly during their second stints there. He had not wanted to return to the high-security prison but the Joker made it so that the super-villain had no other choice in the matter. This thought forces Captain Boomerang to grit his teeth in a sense of fury as he rolls his head around on his neck.

He is beyond prepared for this show-down since he does want to get his wife back in his arms where she rightfully belongs now. If he had any idea that the Joker was harming Kara physically along with mentally, Harkness would have found him much earlier to kill him once and for all. Harkness would have found a way to kill him in a way that is especially cruel since that is what the harlequin would deserve for harming the love of Harkness's life. The very thought of the Joker harming Kara in some way fills Boomerang with fury to the point where the super-villain almost sees red.

It is not a thought that Harkness likes by any means but he had no idea that the letter he found on the table was coerced until Harley came to his front porch. He will have to give the male harlequin an extra pounding for that fact alone since the Joker somehow found a way to coerce his beloved wife. That fact means that the Joker has found some form of Kryptonite, which is a thought that makes Harkness see red all over again. By this point, he has made it to the door behind Harley and is itching for a fight with the harlequin on the other side of the doors so that he can put this messy situation behind him.

He wants to apologize to Kara for not being there for her when she had need of him. This thought brings a furious tear to sliding down the villain's cheek as he turns to Harley. The two of them push open the doors at the same time to reveal the contents of the room now before him. Captain Boomerang cries out with a sense of despair along with fury when he sees the physical damage the Joker has already placed upon his wife. Harkness then turns his attention toward the Joker just as the other man grabs his gun from the waistband of his trousers.

By the time the Joker pulls out the gun to shoot Harkness, the other villain has released a boomerang to dispatch the harlequin where he stands in place. The boomerang does its trick by knocking the harlequin down, though the Joker almost gets out of the way in time. The villain walks up to the Joker in silence as Harley holds him down with marked ease since the boomerang had broken one of the Joker's ankles. As he walks toward the Joker, Captain Boomerang picks up the gun the harlequin had dropped during the scuffle.

He aims the gun directly at the Joker's forehead while the harlequin grabs his foot to knock him down, managing to make the super-villain lose his balance long enough to miss his shot. Boomerang yells out in utter fury, being beyond coherent words by this point, as he grabs the gun again to shoot the Joker. Harley looks at him pleadingly with her eyes as she begs him silently to get it over with, which brings Boomerang a sense of pity somewhere deep in his heart. He manages to grab the gun right before the Joker and lets out a deep breath after releasing a single bullet into the harlequin's brain to end the entire situation.

Once the shooting is done, Harley dispatches the rest of the guards while Boomerang rushes to Kara's side with tears streaming down his cheeks. He takes the necklace off of Kara's neck as he holds her to his chest. His voice is trembling with fury but also with fear as he tries his hardest to speak to Kara.

"Baby...it's okay now. I took care of that ugly bastard. He won't hurt my baby anymore...he won't hurt my sweet girl anymore. Please be okay...please forgive me. Please forgive me for not being here when you needed me. I'm beggin' ya...please."

As soon as the bindings were off Kara nearly throws herself into his arms, closing her eyes as she feels the the wounds and bruises immediately heal. She was shaking, but she was fine. She knew that Boomer needed to handle this himself. He was able to get the revenge that he needed and she knew that the time he had spent in Belle Reve was not needed. She clung to him now, knowing that when he saw her face again it would be healed. But not the haunted look in her eyes as she now watched the Harlequin stand.

As their eyes met, there was an unspoken conversation between them. They both understood each other and she knew that her relationship with the Joker had been a love-hate relationship. The look in her eyes told the superhero that Harley loved The Joker but she had endured more than she could bear. The look in Kara's eyes told Harley that she was grateful to her and that she now knew what Harley had been through in a sense. Harley was free and Kara would turn a blind eye to the crimes she had committed with the Joker.

She felt a rush of relief flow through her as she snuggled in Boomer's arms, closing her eyes once more, taking in the fact that she was finally safe. When she opened them again, Harley and the kryptonite was gone. They stood in an empty lair and all she wanted right now was to go home with her man. Her knight in shining armor. That was what he was to her. The only thing that remained in the room was the blood spot and the pieces of brain that had been part of the Joker's body. But the guards that were summoned by Harley had taken him away. She let out a sob as she realized that the Joker could have killed her if Boomer had not come when he did and she realized that she was shaking like a leaf.

Tightening her hold on him, she leaped into his arms and lifted her feet off the ground, wrapping them around his waist. He now held her completely off the ground with her help. She wanted to stay in his arms no matter what happened at this point. The events of the day had shaken her to her very core. She realized that as much of a super hero as she was, she could still be taken down if it was someone that knew about her or what her weaknesses were. Harley knew her weakness now. But she had a feeling that she and Harley were kindred spirits at this point and she would not reveal her secrets to anyone.

She bit her bottom lip as she now tried to get control of her emotions and pull herself together. The fact that this man holding her now was stronger than her, in a way, made her really think. She was vulnerable to him and when he was around he had the upper hand and the strength. She knew now that no one would ever hurt her without Boomer being ready to take them down in a heartbeat. Who would have thought that superheroes and super-villians could fall in love and make a great team. Well Kara and Boomer were here to prove the world wrong.

"Please. I want to go home. I missed you so much. I just want to cuddle and feel your arms around me, keeping me safe."
