George Harkness almost raises his hands in a form of surrender at the sight of Clark Kent and would have if he had not been holding his wife in his arms. He raises an eyebrow at Clark as he remains right where he is with his wife held firmly in his thick muscled arms. He knows that Clark would kill him if he has the chance to and that thought is not amusing to the super-villain in the least. He does not want to be killed before the birth of his child, let alone at all. He does not want to put his wife through the torture of living without the man she loves in this life.
He would much rather wither and die himself if he had to live without Kara now; he certainly wouldn't want that kind of life for his beloved. He also wants to bury his facial features into Kara's throat so that he does not reveal his sense of despair over such thoughts but he does not do so since he wants to keep his eyes firmly locked on his wife's cousin. He will never trust the man known as Superman, though the two have never had much contact in the past. He knows that Clark will never trust him either since George is technically considered to be a quote-on-quote super-villain.
Super-villains are technically never trusted, no matter who the person behind the villainy is. It is sad that he has to hide his true identity just to be able to do normal things like taking out a mortgage or putting his name on Kara's apartment lease. He wanted to be able to turn over a new leaf for Kara and their new family if no one else but he knows that people like Superman will never understand that fact within Harkness. He knows that his motivations will never be understood, let alone heard clearly.
That thought brings a sigh out of Harkness's lips as he hears Clark's question. He does not understand why Kent looks to him when he asks about the child since he is sure the question is directed at his wife. He glances at Kara since he wants the question to be answered by her rather than himself. He knows what his own answer would be but he knows that Kara would want something completely different. He knows that Kara would give her cousin a second chance while Harkness himself would not.
That thought brings a grim smile to the villain's lips as he lets out a soft sigh of resignation. He knows what her answer will be before she even says anything so why isn't he answering for her? Or would she completely shock him with the answer already brimming in his mind, wishing to be spoken? He waits for Kara to answer with what appears to be bated breath, though he does not allow Superman to see the reaction in the villain's mind. He does not feel like the superhero deserves to see the thoughts in the villain's mind even if they pertain to the hero himself.
Kara gazes at her cousin now as she ponders her answer. She already knows what she will say and she know that he hard headed cousin will not like it. He won't fight her on it since she is stubborn like her mother and his mother...a mother he never knew. She had been sent to keep an eye on her cousin. Problem was, he grew up before she ever landed on earth. She was the one with the memories and he was the one with the world behind him, even now that he was in the Justice league. She was finally assembled her thoughts on the matter and let her cousin know her answer. She knew he would be mad at first and he would not accept her answer. But then Kara had her reasons.
"I am going to hold off on answering that for a moment, cousin. Here is why. I won't go into detail, but there is more than meets the eye with the people that you call villains. To me, it is racist and derogatory. You see, you were raised by a loving family that sent you through college and you had help on becoming what you are. Our place so to speak has crystals of all sorts and you have learned from your history that you were loved. You think that everyone should be good just like you but that is where you are wrong. Villains as you call them are not what they seem. They are people who got a bad deal in life. Love was not in the cards for them. They did not ask for the lot in life that they were handed and no matter how hard they try, they are not able to get on top. Boomer has proven to me that he is a good man. He has a good heart and wants to take care of me. I love him more than anything else in the world but in your mind you are not ready to hear that or believe it so now I am going to give you my answer. No you may not see our child or have a part in his or her life or any other child that we may have. Not until you allow yourself to believe that some villains need a chance to make amends. They need a chance to be able to make their lives better instead of having to deal with their lot in life. When you can come to terms with that and accept it, maybe then I will give Boomer the choice to let you see them or not. I know how he feels right now. I love you, Kal-El but I need you to know I am alright and that I am happy. Now please leave our home. You are not welcome here."
Kara quieted down now and took another bite of toast. She knew that this would hit her cousin hard and he turned to look at her, ready to say something. He could not understand all of this and how Harkness had manage to convince her to feel this way. Kara had always stood for good and justice. What he didn't see was that she still stood for those things but now it was on a different level. He was in even more shock when he heard her words telling him to leave and that he was not welcome here in their lives. He gave Harkness a glare that he would not forget but then he knew he would not come after him or let his friends go after him. Kara would hate him forever. She was the only family he had and now he was being dismissed.
"Harkness, do you agree with Kara's decision to not allow me in your lives or the life of your children?"
