The old VW campervan bumped its way down a small un-made road. In the 45 minute we had been sitting in the car we had gone through favourite coulor, favourite band, favourite music, who we lived with, if we liked our work and much more. Finally Blaze stopped Florida. in the middle of nowhere.
“Blaze! Where are we? Did you get lost so just stopped?”
“nope welcome to Hockleys hill” he said pointing to a small mound in the ground about a mile away.
“this is where you wanted to bring me? To a small lump in the ground?”
“come on grumpy, wait till we are up there” he said taking me into a firemans hold, locking Florida, and starting to walk me up to the ‘hill’
“get off me I can walk all the bloods rushing to my head” I said hitting him on the back. He put me back on the floor. Holding me straight and I got head rush and felt dizzy for a moment “see this is what you do to me!” I said when I regained balance
“what make you dizzy? That’s not something I hear every day” he winked at me and slipped his hand back into mine. I was trying so hard to stay mad at him. He just dragged me into the middle of nowhere, is making me walk up a hill and put me in a painful fireman’s carry, but with his hand in mine as he ambled along our arms swaying absent mindedly by our sides, I couldn’t help but feel myself fall for him a little bit more.
He noticed me starring at him “what?” he asked
“nothing. Nothing at all” I felt my self going red
“no come on tell me” he said. We were both looking at each other and not where we were meant to be going. So we didn’t notice the small ditch that had been dug out, we landed in it in as a big confusing lump.
“its like earlier all over again” Blaze laughed. I couldn’t help but laugh and we sat in the ditch laughing still holding hands, then it started to rain, still laughing we got up, I started to head towards Florida, when Blaze pulled me towards him “wait I haven’t shown you the edge yet” he said. And he picked me up and ran with me up the hill, slipping and sliding all over the place over the wet mud. We finally got to the top and he put me down in front of him and tuned me round. I was leaning back on him, his arms around my shoulders, as I looked over the edge what I had once thought was a hill was really a cliff. And we looked down onto the fields and landscapes below. I could see the sea in the distance. It was beautiful simplicity standing in the rain on what felt like the edge of the world with him.
“look” said blaze “the suns setting” and we sat and watched the sun set behind the sea.
“its beautiful” I said breathless
“it is but not as beautiful as you”
And I knew at that moment that I would remember this moment forever.
