No no no no no. Did I hear that wrongly or is my dad really a teacher? Then that means...I'm a teacher's daughter. I swallow and scrunch my nose. I used to make fun of kids whose parents were teaching in my school but now...Ugh stupid karma. Angry face and Mr Prescott leave with a nod at my father. He sighs and closes the door after they exit. He sits next to me and watches my face. I frown and reply with an angry " What?". Then I realise what I had said to him when I had barged into their group embrace. I close my eyes, " I'm sorry for yelling at you at that time. I shouldn't have done that you've just..I don't know..met your family after vanishing to god-knows-where " I say this in a really small voice. Something dark passes his face as he raises his hand fast. Out of instinct after so many lashings I've gotten in my life, I cover my face and whimper. Silence passes as I freeze. I hear a strangled sob and someone hugs me fiercely. I hug back and burrow into him. "It'll be okay " He comforted me. I don't say anything as I soak up his love evident in his kind words. He leans back as he looks me in the eye and says " Tell me everything I missed out when I was gone".
I tell him everything. Everything. As the words flow,my heart becomes lighter. There's still this nagging part of me to deny him but it was all I could do but lean in to his care for me after the trauma of Mom's boyfriends. It felt like he was paying back after so many years of no paternal person to care for me.Mason.Mom.Us
