"Mary can you stop looking out the window its almost dark out." Luna whined at me.
"why should I." I looked at Luna she was so irritating sometimes but I put up with her.
"Mary don't you remember what happened to your dad. I don't want you to go missing or end up at your doorstep dead."
How could I forget it was only two months ago when my dad told us what he was going to do. My older brother Jack got into a fight with him after he told us. The last words Jack ever said to dad was that he hated him. Mom on the other hand was devastated when dad told her he was going out into the woods to find out if the laws were true or not. She went into a deep depression ever since we were told dad was never coming home.
The one thing dad always said was to never trust the government he believed they were making it up and they wanted to control the country. I know better now though the government is not lying they are trying to protect us. whatever whoever is out there doing this to us is a cold-blooded killer and will never be satisfied. As long as whatever is out there lives no one is safe.
"would you stop day dreaming and help me lock up the room." Luna said to me looking very impatient with me. she's probably scared that she's not at home.
"Fine mom." I said to her. Tiredly walking over to lock the door and flip the deadbolt. Yep a deadbolt on my bedroom door its crazy but if those things get in the house I'm not taking any chances. Luna walked over to close and lock the windows then closed the blinds and curtains so nothing could see us and we wouldn't be able to see out.
It was around nine at night the latest anyone stayed up dusk was late because of it being summer and all. Tonight, was the night before the first day of high school so Luna is sleeping over so we can get ready together in the morning. It's crazy we can still have sleepovers considering all of the rules and shit we have to follow.
That night I woke up to scratching and taping at the windows it's pretty normal now-a-days to hear that stuff but I did not to open my eyes because I might see out the window. The noises stopped after an hour and I fell asleep thinking about how my life would be if the laws and whatever's out there didn't exist.
