Don't Leave The Window Open

After school special

My alarm went off at seven just like every other person still in school. Before we had to worry about monsters in the dark school started at seven. That meant you had to get up at six but now that's breaking the law.

As we tiredly walked down the stairs Jack came out of his room to make breakfast for everyone. ever since dad went missing Jack has become basically like the boss of the house he paid all of the bills and made sure me and mom had clean clothes and enough food to eat.

"Do you want eggs or cereal?" Jack asks Luna and I.

"Eggs." We both say in unison.

We made our way over to the kitchen table in the corner of the kitchen closest to the window. I looked outside to see the neighbors husband hanging in a noose  from the tree. He was ghost white with a gash in his forehead dripping blood. I audibly gasped and Luna and Jack came over to look.

"You guys go get dressed for school I'm going outside to figure out what happened." Jack said as he rushed out the door.

"Do you think Mr.Ellis went outside last night?" Luna asked me.

I looked over at her to see that she looked scared and quite frankly she looked like she was going to pass out. Trying to sooth her nerves I came up with a scenario that could have happened to tell her. Even though I know he was killed by the things living in the dark.

"Maybe he committed suicide or his wife killed him or it was a murder." I said to Luna but she was not having it.

" Mary I know it was the things in the dark that killed him you don't need to sugar coat it for me." she said as she walked up the stairs to get dresses.

I walked up after her to get ready for school after all it was the first day of senior year at high school. Luna decided to wear a light blue flowy tank top and jean shorts with sandals. Her shoulder length blond hair was put up in a braided bun. I on the other hand chose to wear light wash skinny jeans a black flowy tank top and black converses. I put my hair into a messy bun at the top of my head. We grabbed our bags and headed to the bus stop to catch the bus to school.

" Can anyone tell me the formula to find the square root of pi?" Mr. Durham asked the class for the third time this period.

Ethan the smartest kid in the class raised his hand to answer. Finally I thought now we can actually leave. Mr. Durham kept the class late five minutes because no one was answering the question.

"Class dismissed." The teacher said "But before you go remember to do problems 1-20 tonight in your note books."

The whole class groaned in frustration and a few kids even flipped the teacher off . I walked out of the room quickly to get away from the teacher before he could hold us even later. after going to my locker I met up with Violet and Luna to walk home together. We all lived on the same street so we walked home together everyday. My dad use to call use the three musketeers when he saw us walking side by side down the street home from school.

Once I got home Jack asked "So how was school today?"

"You mean back to hell right." I said as a shot him a death stare.

"Funny. Now go do your homework." He says returning the death stare.

Jack dropped out of school to take care of me and mom when dad went missing. He's only 17 that's only a year older than me but he acts like an old man.
