Chapter twenty eight: Recovering

(Damen's pov)
I lay on my bed in the house I grew up in. Only this bed isn't actually my bed, it's a bed we kept down in the basement for when we had prisoners or someone was acting out irrationally. Ironic isn't it? That I was put in here for the same reasons. I let out a quick laugh and then I just sit up. Rafael has kept me here for days, maybe weeks, and it feels like my old jail cell. Only this one is more roomy and it's well, home. I hear the door open and I stand. My heart beat picking up by at least 5 miles. I get ready to start arguing with Rafael or fighting an intruder, but then I see her. Her blues eyes lighting up, her lips forming a smile. Her body language showing nothing but excitement and love. Rain. My Rain. She' here, and she's-

I stumble back a step as she launches herself into my arms. I hug her tight and press my face in her neck. Inhaling her scent of spring I sigh and I say "oh Rain, where have you been?" She laughs and it comes out choked and then I pull away. She looks me in the eye and says "I've been upstairs. I was only aloud to come see you now. Thanks to Rafael!" She says it proudly. I look at my brother and give him a small smile. He grunts then turns away. I look Rain in the eyes and I feel this hunger come over me. Licking my lips I ask in a husky voice "can I kiss you?" She nods. So I kiss her. Gently and soft at first then I kiss her with so much passion. So much need. Her lips fight with mine and I laugh into the kiss. She giggles and I swear to God it's the best sound I've ever heard. "I love you" she says.

I pull away. Looking at her with shock. "You what?" She looks down sheepishly but then says "I love you. I've loved you since the day I saw you. But I only realized I did when I came to visit you in the jail. And then I realized it again when we chased each other through the hotel room. I couldn't tell you then because I was scared and it just wasn't the right time. But Damen I love you" I look at her in shock again. "You love...me? Even though I'm evil and I'm a scumbag? Even though I've killed people. Not to mention your best friend?! I've tried to kill Iris so many times and I've put you in harms way. I made you go along with my plan to destroy the planet, and still you love me. Why?" She looks at me, a small smile twitching on her lips. "Because even through all of that I see you. I see who you are and who you want to be. I love that you want to fight for what you believe in, and I love how loyal you can be. I see you." Tears prick my eyes and I kiss her deeply.

"I love you too Rain. God... I've never loved anyone as much as I have you" she shivers at this and she melts into me. I kiss her everywhere. Cheeks, neck, collarbone, eyes, forehead, temple, nose, lips. I'm addicted to her. All of her. I pull her to me and we get lost in each other. I don't know how much time has past but next thing I know Rafael clears his throat and I glare at him, "what?" I ask. He smirks at me then says "times up. It's been 20 minutes. Rain you coming?" The way he says this irks me. But she looks at him and sighs "I have to go now Damen. Ill come back promise. I'm not leaving you behind." Then she pulls away and walks to my brother. He pulls her through the door then closes it behind her. I slump to my bed and sigh. There's goes my ray of sunshine I think. But her words pierce my subconsciousness and as I lay back down, letting time tick by until next time. I hear this:

I'll come back for you promise. Im not leaving you behind
Oh Rain... My sweet, sweet rain. What did I do to deserve you?

(Rain's pov)
As Rafael leads the way upstairs I can't help but look back over my shoulder. I know the door will be closed but I can't help but feel disappointed that I won't see him. Even though it was only 20 minutes, it was the best twenty minutes of my life. And I finally told Damen, after so many months almost a year, that I loved him. It was amazing. As we walk in silence I ponder on what I should do until I see Damen again. But nothing comes to mind. As soon as our feet hit the top landing and we enter into the hallway Rafael turns around and stares down at me. I see the calculating look in his eye and something tells me he's coming up with a plan and I won't like it at all.
