Chapter eighteen: What happened to goodbye?

(Rain's pov)
I'm in my room sitting on my bed. I'm going over my encounter with Damen, when I hear it on the news. It's faint at first then I turn up the volume and stare in horror at the screen. There's a reporter there and she's standing in front of some drab apartment building. There's an ambulance and I see... Wait! Is that Iris's family?? Holy shit! I sit up straight and I look closer. It is. Oh my god. What happened? Where's Iris? My heart thrums faster and then I zone in on what the reporter is saying. "...young girl found in apartment building... Was shot early this morning.... Presumed dead..."

I shoot up. Dead?!! No... "Oh Iris.... I'm so sorry"
"You could avenge her you know?" I jump at his voice. Turning I see Damen. He's in my room and he's here. He's not in jail. "How'd you get out?? You're all over the news as well as Iris now" He only smirks and holds a hand out to me, "Come join me Rain" I look at him in confusion and murmur, "Join you in what?" "Join me in a revolution against earth. Join me in destroying those who have deceived us, in avenging those who we loved have fallen. Come with me Rain, please" I look at him like he's crazy. He is crazy... He's talking about rebellion and destroying the planet. What the hell?? I look at Damen and I take a step towards him. He smiles at me and my stomach churns with nausea and digust. "When I said I'd give you a second chance I didn't mean in destroying the planet. I meant in a relationship with me. I don't know what happened in jail but they destroyed MY Damen." He sighs and rolls his eyes.

"Rain. You're so innocent. Come my dear. Join me, be my queen and together we will rule the world." I look away. He's gone absolutely mad! I feel his hand come and cup my cheek. Then his other hand snakes into my hair. "I can't do this without you. I need you by my side. My angel. My beacon of light. Please Rain??" I look at him, my heart and head are competing in a mad battle of wits. "What do I get from this IF I chose to join you?" Damen, looking into my eyes, smiles and says "you'd get the world." I laugh "maybe I don't want the world. Maybe all I want is to have my normal life again. Maybe all I want is to have you again. By my side." He looks at me with eyes of determination and a sparkle of hope, "well you can have all of that and more" I bite my lip. Why does he know the right things to say? Why does he still have to capture my heart?! I am about to turn around when he presses me to him. "Damen...?" But I'm not aloud to finish as his lips capture mine. And it's not a kiss of passion. It's one of desire, need, want. It's sweet and sad at the same time.

I get completely captured in the kiss. God he still has my soul in his hands. I never stopped loving him not matter how hard I tried to forget him. I lose track of time. As he pulls away, I'm sadden by this, he smiles and whispers "I love you Rain I really, really do. Would you join me, my queen, if I said I could save Iris?" And with those words, his eyes shining with triumph for he knows what he's done to me, my decision is sealed.

"Yes"

(Iris's pov)

"Iris?!!"

"Iris baby, I'm here!!"

"Iris if you can hear us please make a noise!"

...Someone just end this already.  Mom steps forward and says "David please her go. I'll give you money. I'll give you whatever. But give me my daughter back!" Father looks at mom and snarls "Our daughter. And no all I want is you and Thomas and Iris and me back together again." Mom starts to cry, "that will never happen.." Dad starts to talk again when all hell breaks loose. The officer moves towards dad, his gun out. He starts calling out orders, mom is crying, John is comforting her while glaring at dad. Thomas is snarling and cursing dad to hell. But nobody notices when dad takes the safety off the gun. Nobody notices when he clicks a bullet into place. I do though.

"Run" I croak out. But no one hears me. The officer takes one step forward too many. Dad places his finger on the trigger and pulls it.
