Today, today was the day I would officially say goodbye to my father.
As I got ready for the day for the day as doctors got prescriptions ready for me for the first time in two days I wasn't on verge of crying and it felt great.
"Take this before- bla bla bla drink plenty of- bla bla bla and most importantly eat- bla bla bla"
"Claire do you understand what the doctor said?" My mom asked
I snapped out of boredom and nodded
"Yup makes sense."
I said while grabbing clothes my mom had brought for me to wear.
As I finished up my makeup I got a text from Clyde. I didn't respond because I was rushing to make sure I wasn't gonna be late.
"Mom I'm ready to go!" I called out
"Okay I'm gonna check out." She called back
I walked to the car and rubbed my arm at were the IV was.
"You ready to go?" My mom asked
I looked up and smiled
"Yeah let's go."
When we reached the school I hopped out and went straight to my locker.
I looked around for any of my friends and none of them were around.
Someone tapped my shoulder and I spun around
"Felling better?" Clyde questioned.
I nodded "thanks for visiting me."
"No problem."
"Have you seen Rylan?" I asked wanting to thank her also.
"Yeah she was by her locker last time I saw her."
I nodded "thanks see you at lunch."
I walked down the hall to see Emmery walk off as Rylan was by her locker.
"Hey Rylan." I said as she spun around
"Oh hey Claire, you look much better."
I smiled "I just wanted to thank you for visiting me at the hospital last night, my mom told me you and Clyde came."
"No prob." She said "I was so worried though."
"I guess I hadn't ate in awhile and it took a turn for the worse." I frowned.
"Just please don't scare me like that again, I got there so quickly when Clyde called." She sighed
"Well I just wanted to say thanks."
"Oh yeah, Emmery and I are leaving early to get ready for tonight."
I nodded and walked off to my locker once more before going to science.
"Hey Clyde." I called out again
"Yeah?" He asked while turning around
"Wanna help me get ready for tonight?" I asked as a smile spread across his face
"Of course I'd love too."
"We're leaving right before lunch my moms helping set up the funeral all day so it'll just be you and I."
He nodded "see you then."
I nodded and walked to science.
"Claire Tucker." My teacher announced
"You have an early dismissal, as well as Clyde Johnson."
The whole class giggled and said "OoOoO" geez what is this elementary school?
I rolled my eyes and walked out.
"So where to first?" Clyde asked
"Let's go to my house and get my dress then we'll go to your house and get your outfit."
He nodded "sounds like a plan."
When we reached my house I let him in and led him to my room.
"I'm gonna wash my makeup off so I can redo it." I said while turning the sink on.
"Ok so what are you wearing?"
"The dress I laid out on my desk." I said while applying the soap on my face.
"It nice I like the lace."
"Thanks" I said while washing the soap off my face.
"What are you wearing?" I asked while drying my face off
"This black dress shirt my mom bought me a couple days ago."
"I can't wait to see." I said while walking out.
He stared at me and smiled.
"What?" I asked
"Why do you wear makeup? You don't need it." He smiled
I felt my cheeks redden "uh I don't know Kelsey taught me how to use it and I have ever since." I shrugged
"I'm gonna change"
I walked into my bathroom and slid into my black dress and slipped my black heels on.
I quickly applied my makeup in again this time adding eyeliner and brushed my hair again.
I played with my hair until I like how it looked then walked back out to Clyde.
I swear his jaw dropped a little.
"You look- amazing." He stuttered
"Thanks. Now let's go get you dressed up." I said smiling while taking his arm.
We walked all the way to his house which was about 15 minutes away walking in heels.
Lemme just say his house was really nice.
Like one of those houses you drive by and think "wow that's huge I wonder what millionaire lives there." Now I know.
"Nice place." I mumbled
"Ha thanks I get that a lot."
"Can I show you around?"
I nodded and he began showing me around I learned a lot about that house like for examples...
-he has his own office space where there's a green screen, professional lighting, sound booth, and his computer setup
-I also learned that both his parents are in the medical industry hint the house.
-and that he has a Yorkshire puppy which is absolutely adorable
"And here's my room." He said opening the double doors to his room aka film nerd heaven.
He had a computer, tv, desk, huge bed, another desk space dedicated to writing and film work and these really cool lights around the top of his wall.
"Woah nice room."
"Thanks I designed it myself." He mentioned.
"Wait really?" I questioned
"Yeah I built and designed everything. Including the tv and computer."
"Woah you really are the nerd aren't you."
He laughed "most likely yes, besides Its definitely something I wanna do if I don't become a director."
"What a designer?"
"Yeah or a engineer, writer or screen writer wow I wanna do a lot." He let out a small laugh.
"But that doesn't matter because my parents want me to become a doctor and they are willing to pay for my education so..." he shrugged
"Why?" I asked
"They think my filming and directing is just a phase and I'll be over it soon but what they don't know is directing is what I wanna do." He sighed
"So show them wrong by winning the film festival." I said
"Already tried they can't make it to the film festival even if I get in because they work 24/7"
"Oh" I sighed
"Oh no..." he mumbled.
"What?"
"I forgot my shirt at the dryers!" He shouted.
My eyes widen.
"Can I meet you there?"
I nodded "of course see you there."
I walked back home and then my mom came and picked me up to drive me there.
We drove in one of those long lines behind police cars and firefighters just so everyone would know.
That's probably not the reason but that's what it felt like.
I looked through my index cards I had written down for my speech.
When we pulled up my mom and I took our seats as people began pouring in.
My mom and I sat in the front row for obvious reasons.
"Hey Claire." Rylan softly said.
I smiled slightly and got up to hug both of them.
"Thank you guys for coming." I said to Rylan and Emmery.
"Is Clyde here yet?" Emmery asked
I shook my head "he had car problems but he'll be here shortly."
Which wasn't a lie after he got to the dryer his car wouldn't turn on.
I looked at Rylan and noticed for the first time she was wearing a dress "you don't seem like the kind of person to wear a dress." I teased as she rolled her eyes
"It won't last."
The doors burst open and Clyde came panting in.
"Am I late?" He sighed
"You're just on time." I said hugging him.
We talked a little bit till we all eventually took our seats and the funeral had begun.
My dads side of the family talked first and after about a hour of everyone's speeches it was finally my speech, the finale.
I walked up and noticed my mom and all my friends smiling at me.
Here I go...
"This is more of a letter, I wrote it the night I found out he had passed.
Dear Dad,
It's crazy how one second someone so important in your life would be there then in a snap of a finger they're gone.
It doesn't feel like you're gone,
I wonder if in heaven you still can see me calling you, which I've tried so far 3 times.
I remember how when you were over seas I would call you everyday and now I would-"
I looked up and saw the worst thing possible, my friends Ryaln and Emmery had ran out of the service.
I felt my heart drop.
Claire come on push through it.
I felt my eyes start to swell.
Clyde who was still sitting had gave me a smile of confidence which was the only thing that kept me together.
"I would call you everyday and now I would kill just to hear your voice one more time-"
Why would they leave?
Come back!  I wanted to scream that from the rooftops.
Concentrate Claire!
"I- I um- uh-"
I forgot everything I was gonna say...
My index cards were on my seats and I was not about to go run down and get them.
I have to pull this together...
I glanced at the closed coffin and smiled
"Love you dad, fly high."
Then I ran out of the church Just how Rylan and Emmery had done.
The rain had started to pour and I could feel my makeup smear.
I slid down against a tree and cried.
Not only have I lost my father but my friends ran out on me.
"Claire?" Clyde quietly asked me
"What?" I said while hiding my face.
He sat down besides me and put his arm around my shoulder.
"It'll get better."
I lifted my head and he looked at me and gently rubbed the smeared mascara off from under my eyes.
"Why would they run out on me like that? During my speech?" I cried.
As the rain pored harder.
He just hugged me tighter "I don't know just know I would never do that ever." He whispered.
I pulled away and looked at him.
He was drenched and so was I.
"Drive me home?" I asked
He nodded.
When we got to my house I helped him change into dry clothes as did I as my mom stayed back and helped at the church.
"Thanks again for driving me." I said as we were sitting on the couch drinking hot chocolate.
"Anytime." He said sipping from the cup.
He looked at the clock then sighed
"I should get going its late."
"Or you can stay, it's pouring and dark you'd be safer here anyway."
"I have no where to sleep." He sighed
"The guest room upstairs." I suggested
He smiled "okay I'll text my mom."
I smile and nodded "let's watch a movie!"
I excitedly mentioned
"Yes! We should watch mean girls."
I burst out laughing "no way. you like mean girls?"
"I've never seen it and heard really good reviews."
"Of course you heard good reviews it's mean girls."
Before you knew it we were cuddled up drinking hot chocolate while watching mean girls.
I felt my eyes droop down as I was on the verge of falling asleep.
This was a great way to end a terrible day.
