That night I barely slept I would occasionally wake up and start writing letters as if my dad was still alive and well.
My mom found me up at 5,
"Have you slept?"
"Yeah of course." I said slipping my letter into my folder before walking past her and into the bathroom.
I felt sick as I stood over the toilet, I looked in the mirror and all of a sudden felt nauseous.
I leaned towards the toilet as I lost any food I had left in me.
My mom burst through the door
"Claire! What's wrong!"
I wiped my mouth before looking at her "nothing I don't think that dinner was cooked all the way last night."
"How would you know you didn't eat it and besides it was a salad!" She yelled
I felt my eyelids droop, "Claire!"
She must've said something in the second I blanked out.
"Are you okay to go to school?!"
"Yeah mom I'm find." I said while walking past her and down the stairs.
I quickly changed into something I found in the clean laundry and headed for the door.
"Claire wait!" My mom called out
"Eat this, you look sick."
"Geeh thanks mom." I said while taking the granola bar.
"I'm picking you up early so that we can finish up the funeral plans"
I gave her a confused
"What do you mean finish up the plans, I thought you said you haven't started them yet?"
"Well yesterday I was thinking due to the short amount of time we have I should just start planning the basics. Are you mad?"
Honestly yes, but was I gonna say that to my mom who just lost her husband no way.
"No it's fine." I said hugging her.
"Have a nice day."
"You too."
When I got to school. I got more stares as usual.
"Claire!" I heard a familiar voice call out.
"Scott?"
"Hey how you holding up?" He said while handing me a card.
I looked at the card "thanks and I'm doing better it's only the second day so I'm not perfect."
"Claire... talk to me honestly."
"Well I tried texting him three different times, but it kept saying that number is not available anymore, it's like my body won't except the fact that he's gone..." I sighed I felt his arms wrap around me.
"If you need anything just tell me." He said pulling away.
I nodded, right before walking off to my locker.
I saw Rylan and Clyde talking in the hallway by Rylans locker.
I'll talk to them after I put my stuff away.
I grabbed my science notebook and homework then walked up to them.
"Hi Claire." Clyde said while slipping his hands in his pockets.
"Hey guys, so you are coming tomorrow right?"
But they didn't answer instead Rylan nudged Clyde's arm and he snapped out of his gaze.
What's going on?
Are they hiding something from me?
I thought Rylan was into Emmery?
Wait what?
"Hey has anyone seen Emmery?" Rylan said snapping me back.
"I think he said something about being sick." Clyde said glancing at the floor.
Great my friends are slowly drifting away at the time I need them most.
"Well the bells about to ring we should get to class." I said walking off to science.
I barely focused on the lesson in science.
Jordan would occasionally nudge my shoulder snapping me back then I would thank him and I would go back to focusing for about 10 minutes before repeating the process.
"Claire your moms here to pick you up."
I nodded and thanked her as I walked off to my locker.
"Claire!" Gosh that's all I've been hearing lately.
But that wasn't a teacher or my mom it was Clyde.
"Hey Clyde." I said walking up to him which surprisingly was by my locker.
"What are you doing by your locker?"
"Mom coming to pick me up, I'm gonna call it a day and help my mom with the funeral plans. You are coming right?"
"Yeah of course." He said writing something down.
"You okay you look a little pale?" He asked while placing the paper in his pocket.
Great the lack of food is making me pale as well as sleep.
"Yeah just haven't been sleeping well." I said telling mostly the truth besides for the fact that I haven't ate a good meal in at least a week.
"Okay well I have to go back to class my teacher thinks I'm getting a drink from the water fountain"
"Oh ok well see you tomorrow."
He waved as I grabbed my stuff and headed for the office.
My mom and I signed out and headed to the depressing funeral home place.
I didn't pay attention for most of it because they would mention my dads name then waterworks happened all around.
I headed back to the car and waited for my mom to finish the rest up.
I had nothing to do so I decided to start my homework when I grabbed my binder I saw the granola bar my mom had given me fall out.
Until then at that moment I had lost track of the last time I ate, 2 days ago.
No wonder I've thrown up, blanked out, and felt dizzy.
I opened the wrapper and just stared at the bar, I tossed it in the bag full of receipts and wrappers and now a full granola bar.
I felt my stomach grumble and I could feel myself getting sick.
I grabbed the bag and ran out of the car and threw up anything else that was in my stomach.
My throat burned when I saw my mom walking out wiping her eyes I ran back to the car and drank some water from my water bottle.
"Why didn't you turn the AC on its scorching out here."
Yeah mom that's why I'm sweating like a sick teen, oh wait that's actually what's going on.
"You had the keys."
She laughed that fake mom laugh "oh right."
"So will they have the picture I wanted?"
"Yup" she said popping the p
"What about the flag will it be covering his coffin."
"You bet."
"Do we really have to drive in one of those long depressing car lines that only cause traffic."
"Yes Claire and it's not depressing it's beautiful because life is a beautiful thing."
I nodded as I reached out to try and turn the AC on.
"Mom can you roll the windows down please." I said feeling more dizzy than I have had in awhile.
"The AC is on."
"It's not working." I said panicking knowing I was gonna throw up soon.
"Claire calm down." My mom said worried
"Please stop the car-"
"I can't Claire-"
I opened my door while we were just about to pull out of the parking lot and ran over to the bush.
You probably know what happens next but the weird thing is that there was literally nothing left for me to throw up anymore.
I felt my legs give out as I fell down on the side of the curb.
"Help! Help!" Was the last thing I heard before waking up in a hospital bed.
My eyes slowly opened as I noticed doctors faces right above me.
"She's up!" I heard one of them yell.
"Can I see her!" I heard my mom yell.
"Go ahead..."
"Mom?" I asked
"Oh honey," she said rubbing the hair out of my eyes.
"What happened?" I asked
"Your blood sugar was too low, they said it happens if you haven't been eating, Claire they said you haven't ate in almost 3 days and you were dehydrated!"
"I-I'm sorry mom." Were the only words I could manage to slip out.
She smiled "just promise me you won't go starving yourself anymore."
"But I wasn't starving myself, my body just wasn't letting me eat." Wow I sound like a crazy person
"That's starving yourself sweetie."
I sighed "can we leave now?"
"No you have to stay here for the night."
"Why?"
"They need to make sure you won't faint anymore."
I sighed "will I be okay to go to school?"
"Yeah if you want, but you need to bring a water bottle around with you everywhere you go and once in the middle of your class the nurse will call you down and they'll make you eat a snack."
"Mom!"
"What?"
"I don't need all this it was just a misunderstanding."
"Claire this could've been worse! You have been sleeping since 2." I looked at the clock and it was 10 "you will do this for me, because I don't wanna loose anyone else."
I felt my eyes water up my mom leaned in and we hugged for a little bit till I scooted over and she laid down with me.
"What happened when I was sleeping?" I asked
"They connected you to this machine that feeds you through tubes, they connect it to a vein or something like that and it gives you the vitamins and nutrients you need, oh and these two kids came in around 8, um Ryan and something with a c."
"Rylan and Clyde?"
"Oh yeah that's what there names were."
I smiled knowing somehow out of that crazy school I found those amazing friends who would visit me in the hospital at night.
"Did they say anything?"
"I left the room when they came in, from what I heard in the hallway Clyde is it? He texted Rylan and she came right away with Clyde i think? I'm not exactly sure they stayed though for a good hour."
I smiled and laid there I already felt better knowing I had some kind of processed food in me, hey at least it's something.
Today would be nothing compared to tomorrow because tomorrow I had a huge math test, I had to somehow explain to my friends my "situation" and it was my dads funeral.
