I woke up early that Saturday morning because I had dance practice.
I changed into my dance uniform and put my dance coat on and a pair of shorts over my dance shorts. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and put very little amount of makeup on and ran downstairs grabbing my bag that was already waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me.
I grabbed an apple and a water bottle and ran to the car to see my mom already waiting for me.
"Good morning." She said while backing out of the driveway.
"Good morning." I said rubbing my eyes while slipping on my dance shoes.
"I'm gonna be a little late today so you can walk to the coffee shop after practice and wait there." She said kissing my forehead.
"Ok sounds good love you."
"Love you too." She said driving off
I walked into the dance studio to see my dance partner and best friend. Scott.
"You're early..." I said while signing in.
"Yeah mom works early today."
"Ahh yeah same for me."
"Well let's go warm up."
***
Today was my hard day at practice so when it was finally over I was breathless.
I checked the time and it was 6pm.
Well moms not gonna pick me up till 7 so I guess I'll go to the coffee shop like she said.
"Hey Claire need a ride?" Scott asked
"No thanks I think I'm gonna go to the coffee shop for awhile but thank you."
"Yeah no problem."
I ran across the street as the rain poured harder than it has all day.
I opened the door and walked in as Jordan Nickles AKA the school bad boy ran out mumbling curse words under his breath.
I know Jordan I guess we're kind of "friends" mostly because he was my science lab partner all throughout middle school.
Let me just say one thing he's not as tough and "bad boy" as everyone thinks he's actually really nice and surprisingly really caring.
As I walked to the front counter I heard people's phones go off and people would look at me and snicker.
I could feel my face redden.
Then I noticed a girl in the back with a camera who looked way to familiar.
I walked up to her and asked politely as possible
"What's with the camera?"
She immediately closed her laptop.
"Uh it's for my mom she- she worries"
Oh please "it's for my mom" she's so lying I mean come on I used that excuse before! I thought
I simply just nodded and looked over to my left and noticed the gamers raging about a game then I looked to the window
"It's really raining today..."
She nodded and slipped her laptop into her bag.
"Yeah I had to ride here on my bike with no umbrella." She said as uninterested as I was right now.
I could tell we were both bored and wanted to be alone but I needed to figure out what was with the cameras.
"Can I sit?" I asked
"Go ahead." She said sipping on her coffee.
Geez this is awkward...
"Sooo what's your name? If you don't mind me asking." I said placing my bag down.
"Rylan Watters."
"Nice to meet you Rylan, I'm Claire Tucker." I said trying to be as polite as possible.
"Do you go to Carmel High?" I asked because honestly she looked so familiar and it was bugging me.
"Yeah, I saw you at the party last night." She mentioned.
My face lit up that's were I saw her!
"Yeah that was a fun party. I think I saw you too by the bleachers."
She nodded.
"Do you know why people are acting so weird?" I asked
"What do you mean?" She asked
"Well peoples phones would go off then they would look at someone and start laughing. It's just weird..." I mumbled
"Nope no idea, well I should get going nice meeting you Claire!" She stuttered before grabbing her bag and camera and running off.
"See you at school I guess." I said feeling a little uncomfortable.
I grabbed my bag and pulled out my phone.
That's weird Scott texted me 5 times.
I unlocked my phone and read over the texts...
Scott: Check the blog Gossip Tracker Pro!!!
Scott: Claire look at the blog!
Scott: Did you see it yet!!
Scott: You're on it!!
Scott: CLAIRE!
Claire: Geez my phone was shut down, calm down I'll go check it now...
Not even a minute later he texted me back
Scott: Whoops sorry
I laughed a little then searched up "Gossip Tracker Pro"
Immediately I saw so many searches saying.
"Drone Girl is back at a new school!"
"Gossip Tracker Pro is back and better than ever!"
I clicked the blog website and the first thing I saw was a picture of me saying
Blog Post #10
Popular Girl spending time with outcast she's really getting her spot mixed up.
I slowly looked up and people were staring and snickering.
I looked around and I felt sick to my stomach I felt my phone buzz and got a message from Facebook from Brody.
Brody's the quarterback and the most popular guy in the school.
The only reason I'm friends with him is because along with the cheerleaders we were the half time show for his biggest game of the year and after that everyone who was in the game hung out.
Anyway back to the message it read
"Woah when did you start hanging out with the nerds and outcasts?!"
You gotta be kidding me...
I decided not to answer.
Then I got a text from Kelsey.
"Ummm Claire what the heck were you thinking I mean really the Outcasts?!"This is not happening right now!
I have to text her back or else she'll think I was ignoring her and that'll turn into a whole other amount of drama I want to avoid."I have no idea why she posted that I was just asking her if I could use the chair she wasn't using." I lied
"Oh ok lol just wanted to make sure you weren't trying to be friends with outcast and nerds."
I glared at the text.
Sometimes I hated being "popular" because basically the whole school besides yourself decides who you can be friends with and I love my dancer friends I really do but sometimes I wish I could hang out with people who aren't so similar to me.
So I texted her something I feel like I would regret.
"Lol I don't understand why It would matter if I actually did hang out with other people besides the jock, cheerleaders, and dancers.""Because you're popular and if you want to keep your rep up you need to hang out with the right crowd. YOURE NOT THINKING ABOUT LEAVING THE POPULAR GROUP ARE YOU!!!"
"Haha of course not."
"Ok good because there was no way I wanted to give up your seat at the lunch table."
I kept reading over the texts and frowned.
Why is our school so messed up that if you're even seen looking at someone in a different social group you're immediately the headline gossip.
I had enough of the Internet so I shut down my phone and walked outside to get away from the giggling and talking they were doing obviously behind my back.
I pulled my hood up and sat on the bench outside waiting for my mom.
When she finally pulled up I saw people stare.
Oh what you gonna snap another picture saying "Claire Tucker still rides home with her mom!?" I thought
"How was dance?" My mom asked
"Fine." I said
"No need for the attitude." She said driving away
"Sorry it's just that schools already driving me crazy."
"How come is it boy trouble." She teased
"Mom!"
She laughed.
When I got home I immediately went to my room and looked through the whole blog and the comments like for example apparently this person goes to our school and was at the party last night and snapped some other pics of me.
For example
...
Popular girl Claire Tucker hanging with the nerds. Something must have gone wrong there! 😱
No actually nothing's wrong I mumbled getting annoyed at how stupid our stereotypical school is.
I can already tell this school year is gonna be crazy.
