It was evening. The sky was pink as the sun set slowly. Cif, Dipper, Mabel, and Gideon all sat in the living room, not saying a word. It was such a beautiful night, this was the time Stan would normally take them to dinner. Stan wasn't there, though. He was gone, dead, murdered by Bill.
"You should probably text your mother back," Gideon said to Cif, finally, "She's worried, you need to talk to her."
"Why were you looking at my text messages?" Cif nearly snapped at Gideon.
"I-I wasn't," Gideon told her quickly, "Why would you think that?" He stared at her, confused.
Cif looked at him carefully. "I never told you my mother texted me," she answered, "you were looking through my phone, don't lie. What the hell is your problem?"
Dipper and Mabel stared, surprised at Cif and Gideon's sudden argument. Dipper was quiet, as usual, but Mabel rolled her eyes and sighed loudly to show her annoyance.
"Cif, I don't have a problem," Gideon said angrily, "Your mother texted you half an hour ago saying 'Hey Cif, is everything okay in Oregon? I haven't heard from you in forever, sweetie.' Is that correct or is it not?"
Cif nodded. "Yes," she answered slowly, "stop reading my text messages and stay out of my business, gosh!"
Cif left the room seconds later, completely bewildered by Gideon's sudden anger and why he would read messages on her phone without her permission. Why was he acting so weird?
Who cares? Cif thought to herself, she'd known plenty of girls who had boyfriends or guy friends who would read their text messages because they were paranoid or they didn't trust them or whatever.
Cif thought Gideon was different, though. He didn't seem like the kind of person who would invade a girl's privacy in secret.
What does it matter? Cif thought to herself. It's not like she was going to grow up and marry Gideon. He was just a friend that she'd met on a summer vacation.
After thinking for a moment, Cif picked up her phone to call her mother. She could tell her everything that had happened, and she could come pick her up, and Cif would never have to go back to Gravity Falls.
Just as Cif was about to call her mother, Gideon knocked on the door of her room frantically.
Cif put her phone down and sarcastically called to him, "if you're gonna look through my phone you don't have to knock on the door!"
"Cif don't leave me, please," Gideon nearly shouted as he sat on the bed next to her.
"What are you talking about?" Cif asked suddenly, "Why would you think I'm leaving you?"
"You're gonna leave the town, right?" Gideon asked her quickly, his voice shaky and worried.
Cif stared at him slowly. "Why would you think I...who said I was leaving?" She whispered very slowly, confused and frozen.
"You were going to call your mother to pick you up, you're afraid and you think Bill is going to kill you so your only solution is to leave," Gideon told Cif swiftly.
Cif just stared in horror. "How do you know that?" She whispered, shocked.
"I-I don't know, I just-I just do...somehow," Gideon answered, terrified.
Cif stood up, backing away from Gideon slowly. "You're really freaking me out, you know that?" She nearly yelled at him, getting extremely emotional. "Say something else like that."
Gideon thought for a moment before answering, speaking swifter and more sure than he ever had in his life. "Your birth name was Kathryn Katley, but when you were adopted at two months old, your foster parents changed it to Ciferity because Kathryn was too average for them, you have two foster brothers, both are the birth children of your foster parents, you've never kissed a guy, your favorite story is The Dark Tower by Stephen King, you hate romantic science fiction novels, your favorite food is tiramisu, even though you've only had it twice, you're afraid of clowns and bears, you've always wanted a red wedding dress, your life's dream is to open a bakery, and your biggest pet peeve is ordinary people."
Every single word he spoke was true. How could he know these things? Some of them Cif had never told anyone.
Cif stared in horror at Gideon. "How-how do you know any of that?" She barely whispered. "How can you possibly know any of that?"
Dipper hurried into Cif's room only seconds later, Mabel following closely behind, both of them shocked.
"Hey, guys..." Dipper's voice trailed off slowly as he looked at Cif and Gideon in detail. He held his journal open to a page at the back. "I think you both need to read this..."
