Was Stan really dead? No one could believe it. It felt like one of those bad dreams that felt so real, and you think your world is over, but then you wake up, relieved. There was no waking up from this, it was real. They had no clue who had killed Stan, they didn't know what was going to happen next, and all four of them were terrified.
Mabel burst into tears, not taking any time to breathe.
"Mabel, please don't cry," Gideon whispered gently as he put his arm around her, and to his surprise, she hugged him, sobbing uncontrollably.
Cif and Dipper just stood there, and Cif noticed tears were forming in Dipper's deep brown eyes. His eyes were different from Mabel's. They were much lighter, much happier most of the time, and Cif wasn't used to him looking so sad.
"I-I'm so sorry, Dipper," Cif whispered.
Dipper shook his head, not knowing what to say, in shock.
There was only silence, Mabel's sobbing echoing through the halls in a horrific way. No one had anything to say, and even Cif, who had only known Stan a few weeks was close to tears.
A tall thin lady with short dark blonde hair approached Dipper. "Excuse me, are you Dipper Pines?" She asked.
Dipper nodded, not saying anything.
"I think this belongs to you," said the lady, and she handed him a crumpled piece of paper.
Dipper slowly took the paper and nodded a second time. "Thank you, Ma'am."
The lady nodded in return and left, leaving Dipper, Cif, Gideon, and Mabel alone.
Dipper looked slowly at the note, everyone else gathering around him. Mabel pulled herself together, wiping the tears from her face and looking up, sighing.
Dipper read the note aloud. It was folded, a strip of tape holding it closed. On the outside of the paper, in messy black ink, it read To Be Opened Upon The Death Of Stan Pines.
"Should we open it?" Dipper whispered slowly.
Cif nodded, "It's probably important, you need to," She told him.
Dipper just nodded in agreement and opened the letter, continuing to read it aloud.
5/13/2000
To Dipper and Mabel Pines,
I know this is tough for you. I know your confused as to what's going on, but please don't worry about me, please move on and focus on what's coming. This is important and I need you both to read very carefully.
I must warn you, Bill Cipher is going to attack and you have to stop him or the entire town will be in fatal danger. There will come a day in the future when I will be killed by Bill, however I do not know when this day will come. I must warn you never to summon him, for the myth is 'There will be death for all who summon Bill Cipher'.
This myth is very true, I must tell you, and I cannot tell you when this will occur, or why I have summoned him, for you must not know the reason, all I can say is stay away from anything related to Bill Cipher.
The only clue I can give you, is from Bill. He says these are the numbers you must remember; 3,9,6,7,9,4,5,15, and 14. When this is translated into letters it comes out to CIFGIDEON, which is meaningless to me at this time, but it must have some meaning.
"I knew it," Cif whispered, "I knew Bill had some kind of connection, but Stan didn't know me or Gideon back in 2000, of course he thought it was meaningless!"
"This explains so much," Dipper exclaimed only seconds later, "That's why Stan always hated Gideon and never wanted anything to do with him, he was just trying to protect us from Bill."
"I always wondered why Stan hated me so much," Gideon said quietly, "How did Bill know my name before I was even born?"
"Bill's all knowing," Dipper said as he looked at the letter, "There's nothing he doesn't know."
"According to your journal, Dipper, there is one thing Bill doesn't know," Mabel corrected Dipper, "And that's whether Cif and Gideon are going to be able to save the town from him."
Cif thought for a moment, not saying anything before gasping. "Gideon?" She asked.
"Yeah?" Gideon replied.
"You summoned Bill, right?" Cif said breathlessly.
Gideon nodded. "Yes, a long time ago."
Cif's eyes were wider than ever. "Stan summoned Bill, and then Bill killed him, then Gideon summoned Bill and his parents were killed. Gideon, Bill must have killed your parents!"
Gideon looked away quietly. "I knew I shouldn't have summoned Bill, if only Stan and I hadn't hated each other so much-"
"That's it!" Cif exclaimed, "It's all coming back to the legend! Dipper, remember when the journal said Gideon was going to die?"
"Of course," Dipper whispered.
"I summoned Bill," Cif could barely speak, "I summoned Bill, and now Bill's going to kill Gideon. It all makes sense now, the letter, where it said that there would be death for everyone who summoned Bill, and there has been; Stan was killed, Gideon's parents were killed, and now-"
"I know," Gideon said quietly, "I'm going to be killed, and there's nothing we can do about it."
Cif sighed, awkwardly hugging Gideon with her right arm. "I-I'm so sorry, if there was anything I could do, anything at all, I would, to save you."
Gideon shook his head sadly, "There's nothing you can do to stop Bill."
"I know," Cif whispered, still hugging Gideon, tears filling her eyes. "I'm so sorry, believe me, if I could, I'd tell Bill to kill me instead, and-"
"No!" Gideon was shocked, "No, don't ever say that, I could never lose you, Cif."
Cif knew what Gideon meant. She knew how he had never felt special to anyone, she'd felt the same way before, it it was the worst feeling in the world. Finally, Cif and Gideon had both met someone who appreciated them for who they really where; each other. Bill couldn't destroy that.
There was quiet, no one knew what to do with Stan gone. There seemed to be no one to turn to, no one to help them.
But then again, who is it you ask for advice on how four children are to destroy a demon?
