CHAPTER 2: The Lake
"No, no, WAIT, COLE-" SPLASH. Raquel, Chloe, Ally, Cole and I sneaked into the woods to the lake while everyone else at the campground ate until they couldn't hold anymore. Chloe and Ally had been the first ones to get thrown into the lake without any warning. Raquel shook her head but still chuckled a little, I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt, and Cole? He just liked throwing people in the water. The lake was freezing cold, according to Ally. Chloe, even though she wasn't expecting to get wet, gracefully floated on the clear water. Cole jogged over to us and pointed to Raquel.
"Oh, no," she warned, "you are not going to take me as your victim."
"Exactly," Cole said with a smirk as he grabbed me, his arms holding my legs and shoulders. I clutched on to him tightly.
"No, wait, what are you doing?" I tried to say between laughs. He quickly went to the lake and tried to throw me, but I held on tightly to his white T-shirt so we BOTH ended up falling in. The lake turned out to be deeper than it looked. As I swam back upwards I could hear the muffled voices of the girls laughing. When I finally reached the surface, Raquel and Ally were still laughing, but Chloe had a serious expression on her face. "Where's Cole?" she asked sternly, looking at me. Just then someone pulled me from my legs into the deepness of the lake. I took whatever breath I could before going back down, which wasn't very much since I was caught off-guard. I looked around me underwater, frantically kicking my legs.
But I saw nothing since it looked almost pitch black down there. The only light there was the light from the moon and stars. Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of me, and I almost had a heart attack, but then I realized it was just Cole. I processed what had just happened, and then began punching him. Well, tried to. Everything was so slow since we were underwater, and I'm sure it probably didn't even hurt him. He smiled a devilish grin that made me even angrier.
I would've punched his brains out right there underwater, but I really needed some air, so I swam upwards - again. Once I did though, I frantically gasped for air. Cole was right beside me doing the exact same thing. That little devil, I thought.
Cole started coughing, but his coughs soon became chuckles which eventually turned to him laughing hysterically. I looked at him and couldn't help but burst out laughing too. Out in the campfire we heard Nick giving yet another speech, which meant it was almost time to leave. We all looked at each other then quickly swam to shore, each and everyone of us freezing. As we started to stand up we hugged ourselves, rubbing our shoulders with our hands, our teeth clattering. I waited for Chloe and Ally to get out, and since Cole was the last and only one left, I waited for him too. I couldn't help but stare at him. His shirt was clinging on to his skin, which showed his abs. Yes, he had ABS. He looked so muscular, his dark hair dripping and his green eyes having this special glow in them. He wasn't rushing to get out of there like the rest of us. He just walked calmly, which gave me more time to admire his beauty.
I snapped out of it as soon as I realized I wasn't alone. I quickly turned back to look at the girls. Luckily for me, they were to busy trying to get the water out of their clothes and ears. Raquel had started a game Would You Rather, and they seemed to be totally entertained, laughing and groaning at each other's answers.
"Pretty cool, huh?" someone right behind me asked. I jumped a little and turned around to find Cole standing there looking at me.
"What?" I asked. Cole nodded towards Ally, Raquel and Chloe's direction. I turned and looked at them too.
"Them." It stayed quiet for a few seconds. "They've always been there for each other, and for me too. I don't know what I would do without them," Cole finally said breaking the silence. "It wouldn't be the same without you, either," he told me, a smile forming on his face. I turned back around to face him, surprised. "Without me? They barely know me. You barely know me," I claimed.
"Sure," Cole responded with that sexy half-smile, "but you fit right in with us." He winked at me.
Oh god. Please let someone come over here. Please let him stop doing that.
"Hey guys," Ally called out. "It's time to go." I could've just kissed her. I jogged over to them and Cole followed. When we reached the campfire, all we heard were the last three words of Nick's speech which were, "Goodnight my campers." He then walked away and let us go to our cabins. Everyone was talking excitedly about the campfire while us five "rebels" nearly froze to death. Cole called us but we just hurried towards our cabins to take a warm shower. Despite the fact that it was a warm night, we were still freezing. As we neared our cabins, Chloe started talking about how the hot dogs were making her fat.
"I can feel it already," she explained.
"Stop being so dramatic, Ashley number two," Ally teased. Chloe gave her a sarcastic smile.
"Well ladies, time for me to leave," Cole said. He started hugging each one of us, but when he got to me, he hugged me and whispered in my ear, "Goodnight, you rebel." He inched away and winked at me again, biting his lip. Then he jogged over to his cabin, his clothes and hair still wet.
"OOOOoohhhh, I see what's going on here," Raquel teased me.
"Did you see the way he looked at Rosie?" Ally questioned.
"Yeah, totes romantic," Chloe chimed in. "He totally has a thing for you."
"You don't know that for sure," I said, trying to talk some sense into them. The thing is, I really, really, really couldn't stop thinking of him. And I really, really, really hoped he liked me back.
