"Guess who." A deep voice said as a pair of hands covered my eyes.

"MAR!" I gleefully cried out turning around throwing my arms around his neck. "Did you get any information from Ryuko?" I asked.

"Hi Mar, how are you? Oh I'm good thank you for asking Liz. No problem, I missed you so much." Mar said rolling his eyes.

"Heh.....I did miss you. Sorry just eager to start going on adventures and earning money. So spit it out!" I said shaking him.

"There's been tale of man. He's called the Rusty Butcher and it's not because he's out of practice. The bastard has been killing for so long everyone's sure by now the damn knife he's been using has to be rusty. The only reason she knows of him is because he goes after the homeless. It's also why he's killed so much and hasn't gotten caught yet. There's a good sized bounty on his head but he's still seen as a waist of time. People want to go after the bigger game that will make there name more known. She told me where he should be and who I should go talk to." Mar said digging my hunters card out of his back pocket. I snatched it out of his hand and placed it in my bra.

"Good job Mar, don't know what I would do with out you!" I praised.

"Still be a virgin? Be in a boat with out a paddle? Mope around all alone wishing for a handsome dark haired man in your life." He said with a smug smile.

"With a goatee, mustn't forget the goatee." I said yanking on it.

"You have a fetish my dear."

"Maybe.......don't judge me and my love for the majestic goatee." I said.

"What if I shaved it?" He threatened.

"I would cry......I would crawl to a corner, curl into a ball and cry." I said pouting. "Anyways, come on! We need to tell Jobe we're leaving and get to going!" I said pulling him towards the corner where Jobe was patrolling. "Jobe! I love you! I love Ponyo, I love the whole family! Mar was successful in finding us a hunter job!" I said as I rushed hugging him and kissing him on the cheek.

"Love you too, you go out there and kick a lot off ass. Just remember to come to us from time to time. Oh and a little cash surprise is always accepted." He said.

"Alright, will do daddy!" I said then grabbed Mar and jumped up onto the roofs till we were at the train station.

"Someone's in a rush. Once again, I ain't saying you a gold digger but......" Mar said and I spead walked to the ticket booth.

"Shove it up your ass Mar, I've told you a thousand times I'm a woman with an agenda!" I spat back at him half heartedly.

"Two tickets." Mar said to the woman in the ticket booth as I showed her my hunter's license. I rushed off to the grocery store near by and bought snackes quickly as Mar dealt with the woman. Once I came back he handed me my ticket which was free thanks to the fact that I was a hunter.

We got on the train and I broke out the snacks. I handed Mar an energy drink and his favorite brand of chips. Turns out that we were going to be on this damn train for six days. We would only  change trains four times so that was nice. The switches would allow Mar and I time to strech our legs, and get a breath of fresh air.

"Hey, Mar?" I asked looking out the window at the passing scenery.

"Yes Liz?" He responded dully.

"Do you have any family?" I asked.

"No."

"What happened to them?"

"Mom killed dad then my little sister before finally killing herself. I was off running the streets at the time. Just walked in when she pulled the trigger on herself. Hey, at least I'm alive. Besides they were my adoptive family. The tenth I had been too. I was twelve at the time. Decided then and there I was done being handed from family to family like some unwanted toy, so I disappeared. Then I met this cool dude who became like a mentor to me. Eventually he ditched me too."

"Shit that's fucked up, I'm sorry about that. So what made you come to Heaven's arena?" I said tearing my eyes way from tge window to look at him.

"Got tired of being top dog in the Underground Arena." He grunted.

"Underground? It was an illegal fighting organization?" I frowned.

"Yep, we didn't have any rules beside make sure you either kill or make your opponent bleed alot. The bloodier the fights the more people would pay to see them." He said scoffing before his lips turned up into a twisted grin. "They paid good money to see my fights."

"What age did you join?" I asked.

"Fifteen years old, joined after being abandoned."

"Why did he leave?" I asked

"Said I was too weak." He growled. I nodded and looked back out the window thinking. Now I could see the reason why Mar was the way he was. It made me see him in a new way, a more normal and human way.

"Your not weak though." I said softly.

"But not strong enough to fight your ex lover boy." Mar spat.

"Mar......please don't do this. Not now, I have my reasons. I don't want to lose you. I know your my protector but your my only hope. If I loose one more person I don't know what I'll do. Please don't...do anything to make me loose you." I pleaded. It was true, Mar was a last stand of sorts. If I had it my way I would never have to live without him.

"I'll never leave, so you can drag me through hell. If it ment I can hold your hand. I will follow you cause I'm under your spell." He said grabbing my hand.

"It's not a spell, it's a bond, but I can promise I won't drag you through hell. I would say that I would follow you as well but then that'll just leave us walking around in circles." I smiled leaning my head against him being mindful of the horns.

"Even if I shaved?" He asked.

"No, the shaving of your goatee is a deal breaker........just kidding. Don't do it though, you wouldn't look right with out it. I know it sounds messed up but it's how I feel." I said slapping his leg.

"Nah.....it's like how you wouldn't look right with double D's." He said earning another smack. I looked down my shirt and shrugged. I guess to each his own, right?
