I was just going to take a picture of Christen's back wound but she decided to come with me since she wanted to move around. We got to the same park that she had got hurt.
I got out and saw Kelley and Alex on the sidewalk looking at me. I went to the other side of my car and opened the door. Christen got out and steadied herself against me.
"Are you sure you and to walk around? This is stupid, I shouldn't have brought you, this is all just stupid." I said, rambling on. She put her hand on my arm to stop me.
"I'm fine, I just need to regain my balance and everything. Plus these sunglasses aren't helping." she said, looking around. The light gave her a slight headache so I gave her my sunglasses to block it out, they're very dark.
I walked with her hand on my bent arm, as if I was giving her away at her wedding. We reached Kelley and Alex and stopped.
Kelley gave me a hug while Alex just stood there sizing up Christen. Christen kept her eyes on the ground to make sure she could keep the sun from bothering her.
"So this must be the girl from the accident. Nice to meet you, I'm Kelley!" Kelley said excitedly. She hugged Christen, earning a yelp of pain. Kelley release and had a concerned expression. "I'm so sorry, I forgot."
"It's fine." Christen said, biting her upper lip to keep from grimacing. Her shirt had stuck to the wound. Crap I pulled the fabric away and in reaction to the pain, she grabbed my upper thigh and squeezed.
"Sorry." I said softly to her. "It can't get infected." I added. She nodded and released me.
"So, are you going to show us or what?" Alex said, her voice like a knife, cutting through the comforting silence. I let out a sigh.
"Yea. Here, get in the car, I'll be there soon." I said handing Christen the key. She nodded and turned. I walked forward to Kelley and Alex and kept going past them to the rocks. "Are you coming?"
They followed and I got to the rocks, getting up. I helped up Kelley and then Alex. We were on top and they didn't look satisfied.
"Is this all? Where's the cavern?" Alex asked impatiently. I turned to not face them anymore. I looked in the distance.
"I'll be running, you two with carefully walk and watch. I don't want another person falling in." I said, waiting for a few seconds. I took off.
Jumping from rock to rock until I had reached the cavern. I waited a minute for them to catch up. When they were next to me, they looked down into the cavern.
"Serv said he probably left his wallet down there." Alex said, searching for it. I couldn't see it due to the unkept grass down there but I decided to go in for it anyway.
I dropped down and searched around. I found it and held it up, earning a nod from Alex. I then got myself up the way I did the first time;
Jumping off the wall to the other, then pulling myself up. When I got to the top, I saw both of their eyes widen. I took the wallet out of my pocket and gave it to Alex.
"Here. I'm going to get down now." I said taking off again. I got to the end and waited for them. Here was my time to land the flip. I tested it out, just letting my body complete it.
Luck was on my side now as I landed on my feet. I turned and saw them in shock again. I held my arms out.
"Jump down and I'll make sure you're okay." I said to them. Alex had a hard look on her face while Kelley nodded.
"I'll go first." Kelley said looking at Alex. She jumped right into my arms, I let her down gently and she smiled to me. She then stepped behind me and nodded for Alex to jump.
She hesitated, then jumped down and tensed up as I caught her. I put her down earning a nod as a thanks.
"So do you need any more proof or is my friendship and trust for several years not enough." I said, facing Kelley. She shook her head and gave me a hug.
"I believe you." she said, holding me for a few seconds. We broke apart and I then turned to Alex.
"And you?" I said, raising an eyebrow. She shifted her blue eyes from the ground to meet my brown ones.
"I guess." she said simply. I sighed and started walking back to the car. Kelley followed.
"What's going on with you two?" she asked, grabbed my arm and stopping me. I turned to face her, seeing Alex still where she was. I was about to answer when I got a text.
Ash: new job offer, we need you and chris home now. this one's legit.
New job. It'll be my first real time as a runner. I need to get going.
"Um... ask Alex, I have to go." I said, taking off to the car and leaving a confused Kelley on the sidewalk. I got in the car and started driving. I was gripping the steering wheel harder than usual, my hands were turning white.
"Hey, it's okay, you'll do just fine." Christen said, cutting through the silence. I was nervous. "If it was a major job, we'd be preparing for it ahead of time."
"Yea. I just don't want to mess anything up, you know?" I said, stopping at the light and looking over to her. She gave me a soft smile, but I didn't give one in return. She leaned over the console and pressed her lips to mine.
At first the contact shocked me, I didn't expect it to happen. I kissed her back, feeling her soft lips against mine. I wouldn't have pulled back if it wasn't for the sound of a car horn jolting us back to reality.
The car accelerated and we continued on the road to the penthouse.
