TWO YEARS AGOAelyn stumbled to the ground. The chain between the cuffs, that held her powers at bay, rattled loudly as she got dragged to her knees. The rough metal of the handcuffs was heavy and painful to her wrists, but the young woman refused to make a sound. Aelyn pressed her lips into a tight line as the Safer behind her kicked her face to the ground.
"That'll be enough. She's made it quite clear where her loyalty lies. She won't talk. Not by force."
She pulled herself upright, the weight of the chain almost enough to make her double back down. Her beaten body ached everywhere as she succeeded to sit back on her knees.
She was clearly in pain, but no tears were shed, she had no regrets, no fears.
Everyone saw the determination to survive in her eyes. Was it bravery that kept her up for this long? Or was it stupidity? The man across from her didn't know.
She was glad that she was the one that was caught, because he was right. She would not betray her family. She would rather be sentenced to death than give them up. Something she knew was going to happen sooner or later.
She watched as a pair of polished dress shoes calmly approached her. The clean shoes felt out of place in the village as it was now. Utterly rundown.
On the other hand, the color of the shoes perfectly matched the dark grey ashes that surrounded them. Some of it was still swirling in the air as the houses around them burned to the ground.
She risked to glance up and traced her eyes up the mans body, until she met with an ebony set of eyes. They made her think of the beady orbs of a raven. Beautiful, but cunning and deathly.
"Isn't that right, sweetheart," the man asked with a soft smile.
Had she not know who he was, she would have mistaken it for kindness. However, nothing about this man was kind. The man himself did not pose a threat to her, even with the shackles on her wrists, but the influence he held over others was dangerous. And as strong as Aelyn was, even she had to watch her actions around this man.
Nylon Dagon was a man of his word and he had sworn to destroy every single mutant out there.
He bore no power in his veins, but the power of his voice was enough to make it happen. Some were naive enough to say he was merely bluffing, but Aelyn knew better. This man had murdered many mutants. Made them go into hiding. Made her go into hiding.
The young woman scoffed, blood filling her mouth as she bit the tip of her tongue.
The punch that followed made the blood flow out between her lips. The Safer his white glove now covered in crimson.
Motherfucker, she thought as she spit out the remainder of blood in her mouth. She had felt the hard metal beneath his gloves as it came into contact with her cheek. Brass knuckles. She ran her tongue over her upper teeth as she tried to keep her anger at bay.
She turned her head around to take a good look at her attacker. He was tall, had olive skin and dark brown hair, which was tied back, revealing his moss green eyes.
He'll have it coming soon.
As if he could hear her threat, he pulled his arm back to go in for the second punch. But the Safer did not know it wasn't a threat, but a promise.
