Luna's pov ~
Chris and I have just been escorted home by a Gyardican. I am utterly confused and don't know what to think.
Chris's voice, muffled by crunching interrupts my thoughts. Why is he always eating? "Well that was... *crunch* a weird day."
We're sitting on the door step of our pitiful little cottage. I mumble, "No kidding. What do you think is gonna happen? Jefferson seemed really upset."
He nods and a belch slips from his mouth. I slap his leg and scoot away from him. His burps stink like rotten ham, no joke.
He laughs but continues talking, "Well I don't know what's gonna happen, but I hope mother gets free somehow, her situation is kinda messed up right now."
"You want her to break out of prison?" I ask and frown.
"Course I do, she's our mother, besides, we should be on her side shouldn't we? We are Shadow Nation."
I sigh, "But think about it Chris! Just cause we're born to be criminals doesn't mean we have to follow that legacy. I am on the side of the Gyardicans, they work for the better good of everyone and serve the government."
He raises a brow, "But you could never be a normal person, you're Shadow Nation, and you can't avoid the fact."
"I think that is a stupid way to think, we are all dwellers of our planet, Fantastica. We are all one, telling someone who to be because of their blood line doesn't make sense."
We both sit there, looking at each other. Perhaps we are equally confused.
That night...
I close my heavy eyes and lean back in my bed. Today has exhausted me. I try to clear my mind of anxious worries, but subconsciously, I am exploring every possible outcome of the situation with mother. What if she really did escape from prison? What if there was a war? Is any of this my fault?Suddenly I hear quick footsteps outside my door. It opens and I see Chris's silhouette in the doorframe. "Luna..." He hoarsely whispers, "I think you should come."
I sit bolt upright, the sheets intertwined in and around my legs. I peel them off, leaving the warmth, "Chris, what's going on?"
"Some people I don't know are here, I don't know what they want."
The hallway light senses our movement and flicks on. I see his face, it's white as a sheet. Something feels weird, like I'm dreaming. No... I'm not dreaming, you never think about dreaming when you're doing it. I pinch myself just in case. The minor pain assures me that I'm awake.
Our house is small, so in a couple seconds, we're at the front door, which is open.
I see three people outside, all swallowed up in dark capes.
Chris and I approach them.
One of them lets her hood slide down onto her shoulders. I recognize her immediately. "You're that girl... I saw you earlier today."
She grins and gestures to one of the people standing next to her, "What did I tell you father? These are the ones."
A man grunts, "Well I'll be damned, these look like Erika's kids, but... Grown up."
I place my shaking hand on the doorway, "Who are you?"
"don't be alarmed, we're here to help." the girl says.
Chris frowns, "Explain already? You're interrupting our sleep."
"I'm sorry about that. I'm Syra, this is Casper, and this is my father."
