December 2015

"So that pansycake, Chad, really vowed to take revenge on us all, huh?"

Jenna nodded. "Yeah, pretty much."

"Well, at least we'll be prepared." Josh still looked very impressed. "Can I hear the story again, your highness?"

Jenna pretended to be annoyed but it was apparent she was very proud of herself and wanted to brag a bit. Tyler didn't blame her, what she did was pretty brag-worthy. As she started narrating how she had so shrewdly pranked head-bully Chad and his minions, Tyler gazed out of the window, looking at the empty football field, but not really seeing anything. They were sitting in the abandoned music room, just like they always did at lunch time. Tyler wasn't so persistent to avoid human interaction anymore but the cafeteria was just too crowded and loud. He simply wanted a break from all the classes to have his lunch in peace.

He and Josh had discovered the abandoned music room the third day of school and had spent their lunch breaks there since. Jenna sometimes joined them and occasionally Hermione did too. Josh liked to entertain them by playing a beat on the drums someone had left there. "It's such a shame for a pretty drum kit like this to go to waste..." he would say.

"Wow." Josh gaped. Tyler was so grateful he and Josh had someone like Jenna to always defend them from the bullies. They didn't get bullied every day, no one really paid much attention to them at all. But Chad and his gang enjoyed giving them a hard time occasionally.

"How did you even know they were planning to pull some prank on us today though?"

"Oh, Zoe told me! She overheard them talking about it yesterday. By the way, I hope you sporks were nice to her the other day..."

"Who the fudge is Zoe and when have we ever met her?"

"Friend of Liv's from ballet class. Dark hair, glasses, looks like Lilly Singh, works at the bookstore? She mentioned she saw you there a couple of weeks ago or something."

"Ohhh, the bookstore girl!" Tyler exclaimed with enthusiasm. "Tell her We Were Liars was bloody brilliant, by the way –she'll know. Jeez, she goes here too? Damn, why do I know no one in this school?"

"Probably because you'd never looked at anything other than your shoes all these years," Jenna noted.

"Touché."

"So anyway, if it hadn't been for her, those douchebags would have probably gotten us."

"Which reminds me, how did you even get the idea about the limes?" Josh asked. "I mean, fantastic idea and all, your majesty," he bowed. "But...how?"

"Oh you know, as Zoe was telling me about what she heard, that lime-obsessed clique happened to pass by, you know, the ones who always like to wear green and have lime beverages at lunch and stuff" Jenna elaborated.

"Well thank the Heavens that it was them who were passing by and not that k-pop/anime club, you know the one with that Crystal girl from my English class. Then the only idea that would have given you would be to throw a bowl of rice at Chad," Tyler mumbled.

"Yeah, that would have helped you," Hermione scoffed.

Jenna chuckled and turned to Josh. "And by the way, stop with the royal jokes, little drummer boy," she threatened him," because I'm gonna start calling you 'Queen'."

It was true that Josh was giving Jenna a hard time for her March of the Black Queen "performance" since that night at Puzzles. But they all laughed about it and Jenna of course didn't really mind, Tyler knew. In fact, when she had walked in ten minutes ago, Josh was sitting at the drums singing:
