March 2015
"Wow that Ash guy surely sounds like a prick..."
"Eh, I guess he was alright on the rare occasions we got him to talk about something other than 'Imagine Dragons! The most perfect band that has ever existed!' " Josh said, mocking what apparently was Ash's voice.
Tyler chuckled. "Oh well, I'll just be careful not to ever become like that, not even with Muse."
"Yeah, he was so obsessed with them that he started watching Game of Thrones too and became a huge fan. You know, because of the 'dragons'...'
A little after sunset, Tyler and Josh had hopped off the train and headed for the beach. It was mostly empty so they could just sit in peace and eat snacks while listening to the waves.
Of course, they had planned this little trip for weeks, they weren't really the 'spontaneous' types.
Josh was currently narrating stories from his hometown and telling Tyler about all sorts of ridiculous classmates he had had over the years.
Tyler opened up to him more, in return, talking mostly about his family, considering he had never paid much attention to his classmates, or any other people in South Russell for that matter, until he met Josh.
As Josh proceeded to talk about his old French teacher, who was apparently psychotic and used to steal all the staff's mugs, Tyler suddenly realised that the voices in his head had been silent for a while –a long while. He then started thinking about how it wasn't only Josh's presence that kept them away. Of course, they weren't completely gone –they never would be– but Tyler had become rather good at keeping them away himself, even when he was alone, when they did come. Josh had helped a lot, but Tyler gave himself some credit too because he really believed that truly wanting to make your life better is always half of the work.
It took a lot of effort but Josh inspired him to hold on and he was always there, something for which Tyler was eternally grateful.
Now, looking at the waves, Tyler believed he was in control for the first time in his life and he felt...happy.
"...and then, weeks later, we found out Mr. Girard had been arrested!"
Tyler laughed because it seemed appropriate but in reality, he had only half-heard Josh's story. Josh didn't seem to notice though.
"It's getting pretty late, I think it's time we went to Puzzles," the boy observed.
"Why, are Dingoes Ate My Baby playing again tonight?"
"No, they're out of town for that gig Liv told us about, remember? She and Diana are so excited for Christine and the girls."
Tyler was very glad Christine and her bandmates might finally get their big break. They were far more talented than most of the bands that got recognition, in his opinion.
[and certainly far more talented than you]
"Oh, so why don't we just go home? It is pretty late..."
[didn't Christine say their drummer might be quitting to go to college in England?
what if they ask Josh to take her place?]
Josh looked at his phone and then held it up so Tyler could read a new text from Jenna.
'You meatballs had better bring your asses here right now'
Tyler couldn't help but chuckle. Oh Jenna... "We should run if we wanna catch the next train then."
