Chapter 7: My classmate is going to die

Part 1

"Man, your progress really surprised me. I did not expect your stamina to improve that much." Angela commented as we watched a movie at nigh after the training.

It had been two weeks since my training started, and to be honest, I was getting used to the routine already. My body started to hurt less often, but even I myself was surprised by my progress. Maybe it was, as Angela said, because of my weapon. How it helped, I had no idea, but apparently Angela said Slaying weapons could sometimes serve as a catalyst to help improve Slayers' stamina.

No demon attacked me for these two weeks, and it was peaceful. Well, at least for the Slaying part of my life. Now that my stamina and physical strength had improved, and I did have some skills in self-defense, Angela wanted to make my training more rigorous. But she was also aware not to compromise my studies too. If I did not understand what was learnt at school, she would be a home tutor. A good one at it, too. But for my school life, well, it was getting noisier. Angela managed to score full marks in a recent class test, and was getting more and more popular with her looks and her brains. But she used her "charm" whenever appropriate so that she would not attract too much attention.

Also, things between me and Rose were going along well. She turned down Marco the next day after he confessed, but they were still friends. When Rose did not fare quite well for that test, she told me once that she was going to make up her mind to try and cut down on her time spent with friends. The crowd of people around her was getting smaller and smaller day by day, but there would always be that few who would stick to her. I guess they were her true friends. Marco was one of them too. He seemed undaunted at Rose's rejection, and had said he would try to get Rose to fall for her, starting with being her friend. Rose sometimes would wave at me as a greeting and we would exchange small talks. She was more like an aquaintance now, but I was cool with it, having gotten over the initial pain of her not talking to me.

I still had only Angela and Lisa for company during recess. But that did not bother me at all. Instead, it was quite fun with the three of us, and Angela and Lisa sort of clicked after the first meeting. They got very close to each other, and it was heart-warming to see that Angela could make a friend who knew who she actually was.

Back to the movie. It was actually a rented movie about huge robots created by humans to fight against monsters that were invading Earth and destroying the human population. It was action-packed and for people like me who liked action shows, I enjoyed it thoroughly. At the end of the movie, I got up of the sofa and stretched.

"It's quite a nice movie, right, Angela?' I asked the girl next to me, only to see her wobbling from left to right before leaning against my shoulder and falling asleep.

Seeing Angela's sleeping face at such a close distance made her look like an innocent girl who would not possibly pick up a sword and fight or would not possibly be a hell of a trainer. That were the kind thought I had when I looked at her.

"Okay, time for you to go to sleep," I said, and decided to carry her bridal style to my bedroom and laid her onto my bed. She mumbled something inaudible, and I pulled the blanket over her.

"Sweet dreams." I whispered.

With that, I closed my bedroom door and went to sleep on the sofa. Sweet dreams. That was most probably the most ironic words I had said, because the moment my eyes closed, my dreams were not dreams. They were nightmares.

I was in a dark and damp place. It was huge, because torches were lit and hung on either sides of the hall which were like around 100 meters away from each other. The torches went as far as I could see. I could make out two shapes further down the hall, one was sitting and one was kneeling in front of the former. I looked down at my body and gasped, only no sound came out. I was invisible! Wow!
