Chapter 85: She Has To

At night, I started letting everyone in. They sat around me and started talking about two other babies in the incubator. I just listened and saw everyone, how happy they were. After a while, everyone started leaving around 7pm. School started tomorrow and they needed to rest. Zayn adjusted my bed and he laid with me. My parents sat on the chairs and faced us. Then my mom sighed, looking through her purse "Almost forgot, the adoption papers." Then Jane entered "Hello everyone." We smile and Zayn jumps off the bed. She pulls my hospital covering to my chest and examines the stitches. I groan and close my eyes as she pokes. Then she writes a few things down and smiles "Everything is going fine." She gets something from her coat pocket and hands me to them "Here, drink two right now and two in the morning." Zayn passes me a dixie cup with water and I gulp them down. Jane chuckles "Emma is going to start walking tomorrow, I hope you don't interfere Stephanie." My mom chuckles "I'm sorry, it's just seeing my daughter in pain, I... I promise." She grins and leaves. Then my mom sighs and takes out a large orange thick envelope. She hands it to Zayn "Here, you just have to sign on the tabs I marked." I close my eyes and shift my head "Not right now mom, those pills made me sleepy." She smiled "okay, well good night guys. If anything, Zayn you know where the on call room is." They leave and Zayn throws them on the floor "We're gonna be in deep trouble Em's." I sigh "it doesn't matter, I just want to go home with my daughter." He turns off the light and falls asleep. I stare into the darkness and feel empty. Without my daughter, I feel hopeless.
