Zayn and I entered the incubator late at night. I whisper "Babe, she's so beautiful. Just sing and watch." He smiles and we stand over her box. "somewhere, over the rainbow, way uh..." she quickly opened her eyes and Zayn gasp "Oh my goodness. My baby. She... she has blue eyes?" I chuckle "She has my grandfathers eyes." She looks for his voice and he keeps singing softly and slowly.
Machines ticking and swooshing. Lights softly buzzing. Dark halls. All you could really hear is Zayn singing "Somewhere, over the rainbow. Way up high there's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby. Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really come true... Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up..."
I let him sing peacefully and watch our daughter slowly fall asleep to her dad's soft voice.
