on the first day of summer,
you wore a winter coat.
when i asked why you said that your heart was still frozen over,
even in the heat of the season.
only now do i understand what you mean,
as autumn approaches and the leaves fall just like you did,
deep into spiraling madness and grief,
tied to your own uncertainty as it acts as a weight
pulling you down further.
so maybe i'll see you next summer,
when the leaves are layered in jackets of dew,
but you have left yours behind.
and we will walk and talk and thaw out your insides
until they feel warm from the sun,
or perhaps something else.

this one is actually not based on anything personal, it's kinda like fictional poetry which i think there should be more of tbh
