After a long drive, they reached the Barton's house. Laura walked out on the porch and Natasha's mouth opened wide as she saw Laura's huge belly. Natasha definitely didn't look forward to carry something that heavy around. "Laura. You're so big!" Natasha said as they got out of the car. Laura laughed. "I certainly hope you only mean my belly." She said and Natasha nodded. "Well of course. You look stunning as always." Natasha said, smirking a little. "Enough about me." Laura said and looked down at Natasha's belly. "How did this happen?" Laura asked happily, putting two hands on Natasha's belly. "Imagine our little two on play dates." Laura kept babbling and Clint stepped out on the porch. "Keep talking like that and Natasha will faint of boredom." Clint said and Natasha just shook her head before giving him a hug. "It's so nice seeing you again." Steve said before embracing Laura in a hug who smiled. "Both of you are always welcome here." She said right before a loud scream could be heard and a pattering of small feet against the wooden floor. "Auntie Nat!!" Lila shouted as she ran towards Natasha, jumping up in her embrace. Steve had to put his hand on Natasha's back to steady her so she wouldn't fall backwards. Natasha laughed, wrapping her arms around Lila.
"I've missed you, I've missed you, I've missed you!" Lila said over and over and Natasha smiled brightly. "Well, I have missed you much more!" She said, tickling Lila a bit, making her giggle uncontrollably. "Hey Cooper." Natasha said, staring at the door. Everyone turned around, looking at the doorway which was empty. "We can all see you." Natasha added and everybody raised their eyebrows. Natasha was clearly the only one who could. Soon, the brown haired boy peeked out his head from behind the door with a shy smile put on his lips. Natasha smiled. Cooper's shy smile became a little bigger as he saw Steve next to Natasha. "Hey there bud." Steve said and Cooper became a little shy again. "Oh shit." Laura suddenly said and everyone looked surprised at her. She wasn't one for bad words. Natasha looked at her only to see the puddle of water next to her feet. "Did your water just break?" Natasha asked, sharing a surprised expression with Lila. "Either that or I peed myself." Laura said, laughing a bit before grabbing Clint's arm who had already started to freak out. "B-but it's weeks early." Clint stuttered. "Apparently, that doesn't matter to this one." Laura said, shrugging her shoulders with a smile. She was as calm as anyone could be. Clint was not. "But the children! We have no babysitters!" Clint said before realising Steve and Natasha laughed at him. "Right! We'll be back when it's.. When it's out." Clint said stressfully and ran inside to get a bag they had prepared. Laura laughed. "You have everything you need inside. We went to the grocery store yesterday." She said calmly and Natasha smiled. "It better be a girl." Natasha shouted after them as they walked to the car. Lila was confused, almost understanding what was going on while Cooper looked down at the wet porch. "Wicked." He said and Steve laughed. The four of them eventually walked back inside. The children were overwhelmed and Lila didn't stop asking questions as she understood that her mom was in the hospital, giving birth to her new sister or brother. Natasha started talking to Lila about any random thing to distract her as Steve asked Cooper if he wanted to help him make some dinner. Cooper, who usually never left his video games alone, stood happily next to Steve as he cooked, asking questions about the amount of pepper and salt and what to think about while cutting the vegetables for the salad. Steve smiled at the boy, teaching him as much as he could about cooking. Natasha smiled over at them from the living room couch, aware of the fact that Cooper was probably a better cook than herself already. "Why are these blue marks here?" Lila suddenly asked as her small hands laid on Natasha's belly. "It's small bruises. This baby is really strong so it kicks hard. The baby is totally going to win over your brother in soccer when it's older." Natasha said, smiling at Lila who shook her head. "Cooper is best in his class. Nobody can beat him in soccer." Lila said. "I bet you can." Natasha said, smiling as Lila nodded. "Yes I can." She agreed. "No you can't!" Cooper said as he overheard their conversation. "Girls can't play soccer." He said and Natasha frowned. Steve looked down at Cooper rather shocked. Before Steve and Natasha could open their mouths and give him a response to that silly comment, Lila did instead. "Girls can do whatever they want to do!" She said, crossing her arms over her chest. Natasha smiled widely and wrapped her arms around the little girl. "That's right." Natasha said, hugging her proudly. Steve smiled a bit too before he started to give Cooper a long lecture about how to treat girls and see them as equals. Cooper took in every word.
After the wonderful dinner that Steve made with the help of Cooper, they all just relaxed for a bit. It started to get late and Lila sat down in the couch with a book while Cooper couldn't stay away from his video games any longer, so he ran up to his room. Natasha sat down beside Lila as the little girl read out loud from a children's book. Natasha listened, loving every little thing about the girl cuddled up next to her. Steve smiled as he was laying down at the other end of the couch, listening to the story as well as he could even though his mind was only focusing on Natasha's bright smile.
Lila yawned in the middle of the story and Natasha chuckled a bit. "Do you want to go to bed sweetheart?" She asked softly and Lila nodded. "Yeah.. Can you tuck me in?" She asked and Natasha nodded. "Of course." Natasha said and Lila shook her head. "I meant Steve." She said and Natasha sighed. Steve almost laughed as he saw Natasha's grumpy face. "Are you sure auntie Nat can't tuck you in?" Steve asked and Lila crossed her arms over her chest. "I want Steve to." She said again and Natasha gave the girl a smile. "He will." She said and Steve took Lila's hand, going to get her ready for bed. Natasha sighed, looking down at her belly. "If you ever choose your dad over me.." She said but realised that there was no reason to why her baby wouldn't do just that. "Then I really wouldn't blame you." She continued and shook her head a bit.• • •
"You've kept your promises right?" Lila asked with an almost accusing tone in her voice that made Steve raise his eyebrows in surprise. "Promises?" He asked and Lila nodded as she climbed into bed. "You promised to take care of auntie Nat and never leave her alone." The little girl said and Steve smiled as he remembered. "I have kept those promises, yes." He said and Lila looked at him suspiciously for a while. "Come on Lila, I love Natasha. I would do anything for her." He said as he looked at Lila's serious face who soon broke out into a smile. "I know. I wanted to test you." She said and Steve chuckled. "Did Natasha teach you that one?" He asked and she nodded, proud that she managed to do it herself. Lila crawled down beneath the covers and Steve glanced over at the Black Widow and Captain America dolls that Lila wrapped her arms around. "Will you make me another promise?" She asked. Her voice was soft but he could hear how much she needed him to say yes. "Yes, what is it?" Steve asked as he looked softly at the little girl. Her eyes almost shut close but she desperately tried to keep them open. "Promise to look after the baby too. Auntie Nat loves that baby." She said and Steve felt his heart ache a bit. The fact that this little girl cared so much about Natasha made his heart melt. "I promise. I will always look after both of them. The baby too." He said, giving her a small smile as he tucked her in. Lila looked at him one last time before she fell asleep with a small smile on her lips. "I promise." He repeated in a whisper.
