[kate]
I was frantically flipping through my history notes. Tomorrow I had my mid term exam for history. I wanted the A so badly. If I got this A then I would have straight A's for the semester. This was not just an ordinary history class, this was the advanced class. At my school, we are offered advanced classes and my brothers and I take all advanced classes.
All of my history notes from August up until now were laid out on my desk in front of me. I had highlighter marker on my fingers, and I had already gone through two mechanical pencils.
I was so stressed out. I have already had three mini anxiety attacks while studying. This is the most stressed I've ever been for school.
Someone knocked on my door.
"Who is it?" I asked not looking up from my notes.
"It's Gray." I heard Grayson say.
"Come in." I said still not looking away from my notes.
Grayson walked into my room.
"Studying hard I see." He said sitting down on my bed.
"Mid term exams tomorrow. The only class that I'm screwed on right now is history." I said while highlighting a sentence.
"Do you need something?" I asked.
"Sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound mean, but I just really need to-." Grayson cut me off.
"Mom said that it was getting late and she thinks that you guys should go to bed with in the next 10 to 15 minutes." Grayson said.
I looked at my alarm clock.
10:56.
"Oh, I guess the time got away from me." I said.
"I'm so stressed." I complained.
"Why are you stressed? You have been studying this stuff for almost two weeks." Grayson said.
"I really want the A." I said.
"Of course you do." He said
"If you go to sleep now you won't be super tired in the morning." Grayson added.
I didn't say anything and Grayson left.
I took all of my notes off of my desk and put them neatly back in my history binder.
I was about to climb in bed before I realized that I hadn't even changed out of my clothes from today. I was still in my jeans and t shirt.
I walked over to my dresser and grabbed a grey sweatshirt that said LongValley across it and a pair of black spandex.
Before getting into bed I looked out my window.
"It's snowing pretty hard." I thought to myself.
It was late February and it's just now starting to snow. That's New Jersey for you.
I walked down the hallway to take out my contacts and brush my teeth.
I walked in and Jack was in there brushing his teeth.
I grabbed my contacts case and took them out and quickly put my glasses on.
My eyes are two different strengths. This causes me to have awful migraines.
"How long have you been studying?" Jack asked with his tooth brush in his mouth.
"Since we got home." I said trying not to let the toothpaste fall out of my mouth.
"Me too. I'm so stressed." Jack said.
"I think I'm just gonna fake sick for that class and go home." Jack added.
"Sounds like a good idea." I said.
I rinsed my tooth brush off and put it back.
"Night." I said to Jack.
"Night." He said back.
I walked downstairs to say good night to my parents.
"Night mom, night dad." I said to them.
"Good night honey." My mom said.
"Night Katester." My dad said.
I walked back upstairs.
I knocked on Grayson's door.
He turned his head to me.
"What's up?" He said sitting up.
"Just saying good night." I said only poking my head in.
"Come here." He said sitting up.
I walked into his room. It smelt like him. His "secret" sent.
He opened his arms for a hug.
I hugged him.
"Good luck tomorrow, but you won't need it. You'll do fine." He said while letting go.
"I really hope so." I said.
"Night Gray." I said walking out of his room.
"Night Katie-Kate." He said.
I knocked on Ethan's bedroom door.
"Come in." Ethan said from behind the door.
"Just wanted to say good night." I said.
"Kate? Not in her room studying?!" He said sarcastically.
"Gotta get those grades." I said and winked.
Ethan walked over to me and hugged me.
I hugged him back.
He lifted me up.
"Don't... Drop... Me." I said.
"I'll try my best." He said.
He out me down gently.
"Go to sleep, you can't test when you're tired." He said.
"Just about to." I said.
"Love you Kat-ryn." He said.
"Love you too, E-tee-wee-tee." I said.
I walked to my quads room across from mine.
I walked in.
"Night guys." I said poking my head in.
They were all still studying.
"I haven't even started reading the last two chapters." Nate said.
"Do you want my notes?" I asked him.
"Yes please." He said.
"I'll give them to you in the morning." I said.
"I can't even." Finn said and curled up into a ball on his bed.
I walked over to him. I rubbed his back. I could hear him softly sobbing.
This is what happens when Finn gets stressed out, sad, angry, or anxious.
"It's okay Finn." I said to him.
"Yeah Finn. You're on the last chapter. You'll make it through." Jack said.
"I don't want to do it." Finn muffled into his pillow.
I patted him on the back.
"C'mon Finn. It's only 11." I started.
"You can cover that chapter in 10 minutes." Nate said.
Finn pushed his book off of his bed.
"Alright, you can either finish the last chapter or fail the last chapter on the test." I started.
"Your choice." I said standing up.
I left the room and walked across the hallway into my room.
I put my glasses on my nightstand.
I got under the covers and shut my lights off.
--
1:46 a.m
I still haven't fallen asleep yet. I can usually fall asleep within seconds. I'm just so nervous about this exam!
I can't pull an all nighter.
I wouldn't be able to function in the morning.
3:24 a.m
Still can't sleep.
4:36 a.m
I'm tired, but I still can't sleep.
--
I woke up to pure silence.
Nobody running around the house.
Nobody yelling at each other.
Nothing.
I grabbed my glasses from my bedside table.
I looked at my alarm clock.
12:56 p.m
"Oh my god, did I sleep through my alarm?!" I thought.
I started to panic.
I then realized something was sticking to my forehead.
I peeled off a sticky note.
School is cancelled today!
Love mom.
My heart rate started to get back to normal. I got up, pulled up my blinds, and looked out the window.
"That's got to be like 2 feet." I thought to myself.
I threw my hair up in a ponytail and walked downstairs.
