Sang
My alarm goes off way too early in the morning. For a few blissful moments, I'm still at the edge of sleep and snuggle deep into my blankets. Hotel blankets are always so fluffy and warm!
"Turn off the alarm!" Nathan groans. His words stop me from falling back asleep and I grope around for my phone to turn off the alarm. What time is it anyway? I look at the screen and am nearly blinded by the glow. I turn the brightness down and sigh when I see the large blinking four on the screen. Why do synchro meets have to start so early?
I turn on a lamp, which elicits more groans from the half-asleep boys. "Sorry, but I need to put my hair up," I whisper. Since solo is before team, they don't have to be ready until much later. To my surprise though, the three boys start getting up at my words.
"What are you doing? Go back to sleep; I can wake you up later," I tell them. Silas shakes his head.
"If you have to get up this early, we will too, Aggele Mou. We're a team," he states. Luke texts the other two rooms to tell them we're up. He gets a text back from Kota saying they're getting ready and one from Sean saying he'll be over in a minute to help if needed. I can't help but marvel at how considerate these boys are- even though they don't have to get ready at this ungodly hour, they still will to support me. It's truly a testament to their character and loyalty.
I go into the bathroom to put on my swimsuit and wet my hair. There's nothing quite like dipping my head into freezing cold water at four in the morning, but my love for synchro eclipses all the little annoyances. This is my first time putting my hair up using a fake bun, so it takes me a few tries to get it to look right but I eventually get the hang of it.
Sean shows up right after I finish putting up my hair. "Good morning little sharkies," he says. He yawns and falls onto a bed. "Who needs help?"
"I'll need someone to pin in my headpiece later," I tell him. First though, I need to knox.
"Would you braid my hair for me?" Luke asks. He's the only other person besides me who has to put their hair into a bun. It's already in the ponytail; the braids are just for increased stability. Sean pushes himself off the bed and wanders over to where Luke's sitting. I watch, entranced, as he deftly makes two neat braids in less than a minute. He then swirls them around each other and holds them in place using a handful of v-pins. Finally, he uses a hair net to capture any stray hairs and pins it in place using bobby pins.
Luke stands up and does a pretend runway walk along the length of the room. "Aren't I just gorgeous?" he asks. I giggle at his antics.
"I think I'm going blind," Nathan says while dramatically covering up his eyes. I playfully bump his shoulder.
"Don't be mean Nathan," I joke. For some reason, this whole situation strikes me as insanely funny and I can't stop giggling. Something about the insanely early hour just makes everything so much more hilarious.
"Luke has a man-bun," I exclaim.
Sean moves across the room and sits down next to me on the bed. "Quit giggling about Luke's man-bun," he says. Luke clears his throat dramatically.
"I prefer the term 'mun'," he says, "Don't you guys like my mun? Is it mun-tastic?"
I lean against Nathan and look up into his eyes. "Luke has a mun, hun," I stage whisper.
The door to the bathroom clangs open and Silas walks out holding a steaming cup of water. "Were you all planning on knoxing anytime soon or just making fun of Luke's hair?" he asks wryly. I jump at his words and rush to prepare the knox before the water cools down too much.
