Chapter 7: How could you?
Draco woke up early the next morning and slowly walked towards Hermione's room door, opening it quietly and once he saw Hermione still fast asleep, smiled to himself.
" I guess Granger probably won't be awake for the next hour or so." Draco mumbled to himself while he returned to his room before changing.
He wore a white fitting shirt with jeans that stuck to his shapely legs and just before he went out, he wrote a letter explaining what he was going to do.
He then placed it on Hermione's side table and with a last glance at Hermione, Draco left, hoping that when he came back, everything would be okay.
Ginny heard the door being knocked a few times and she opened it. Upon seeing that it was Draco, she closed the door again but as she was walking back into the kitchen, she heard another knock.
She tried to ignore it but the knocking didn't stop.
Sighing, she opened the door again to come face to face with Draco.
"Do you know where Weasel might be?" Draco asked desperately.
Knowing that he wasn't going to give up, Ginny called out for Ron.
"You're lucky that I'm visiting mum today... No one else would open the door for you no matter how many more times you knock." Ginny said as they heard Ron walking up to them.
Ginny rarely visited her mother as she and Harry had gotten a new apartment after they got married and they were often too busy with work to visit.
"What's up, Malfoy." Ron asked.
" Let's see... You cheated on Granger, breaking her heart... Then you insulted her, calling her a whore... Yeah, nothing's up at all." Draco said through clenched teeth, ignoring Ginny's audible gasps.
She had every reason to be shocked. Her brother had cheated on Hermione and unexpectedly, Draco was the one to stand up for her.
"Is this true?" Ginny asked. Ron nodded, not sparing a glance at his sister.
" How could you? Poor Hermione. She would have been getting married now if you didn't do that! I thought you loved her!" Ginny asked and Ron's smirked.
" I don't love her. I just used her to make Lavander jealous. Who would like her? I honestly can't help if she chose to... Offer me her services..." Ron gave Draco a look, grinning evilly.
It took every inch of Draco's will to hold himself back from punching Ron at that moment.
"Granger still loves you. She was heartbroken after you shouted at her and told her you didn't love her. She cried herself to sleep last night. Did you know that?" Draco shouted, his face red with anger, the hint of sadness in his voice undetected by neither Ron nor Ginny.
"Malfoy... Malfoy... I know how you feel for her. It's obvious... Doing this even though she doesn't even like you... Don't you know... She isn't going to like you just because you were there letting her cry on your shoulder when I dumped her." Ron sneered before leaving him and Ginny alone and going back to his room.
"Do you love Hermione?" Ginny asked hesitantly, cautiously.
"I do." Draco answered without missing a beat.
"Then go to her." Ginny said and Draco nodded before apparating back to his apartment.
Hermione woke up with a start. She looked to the left and saw a piece of paper on the side table. It was from Draco.
Dear Granger,
I'm going to meet Weasel and you are to stay in the apartment. I know that you would try to find me and so I have charmed the letter to stop you if you were to escape. If you try to escape, the letter would do something horrible to you and I don't want you to face that. Please, please just stay where you are. I promise I'll be back soon.
Trust me.Draco
Hermione read the letter three times before fully digesting what it said. She knew that Draco didn't want her hurt and she could understand that.
Yet she couldn't help but wonder why Draco was so reckless as to try to stand up for her when she didn't even care about Ron anymore.
She was thinking when suddenly she heard some footsteps downstairs.
"Draco?" She mumbled as she opened the guest room's door slightly. She saw a figure walking towards her.
Without warning, she blacked out.
