'Stupid seagulls!' Fin said to himself, 'they're always around when you don't want them.'
The sounds of the aquatic birds filled his ears to a point that he knew he would have to open his eyes soon and deal with them. He sighed rolled onto his side and slowly opened his eyes.
'Where am I?' He asked. "The last thing I remember is going..." He had to think for a moment to come up with the answer.
'...I was drowning!' He jumped to a sitting position and looked around. The small window just above the bed held a single bird sitting on the outskirts of the frame.
A seagull.
'But where am I?' He wondered again forgetting about the gull. A quick glance of the room gave him nothing to go by. Simple walls with a couple of painting that looked as cheap as the interior adorned them. A small desk sat in the corner and the bed he was now sitting on was small and none consequential.
Fin stood and had to duck just a little as a light that hung from the ceiling hit him on the head. Rubbing the back of his skull he stared angrily at the dangling fixture wanting to tear it from its moorings.
"What the heck?" He whispered then looked away from the light.
A slight breeze wafted through the open window filling the air with the smell of sea salt. The gull sitting on the window suddenly squawked then flew away into the dark grayness of the sky.
For the first time he caught a glimpse of where he was, 'A ship, I'm on a ship' He gasped.
Fin turned on his heel and ran for the door. He grasped the handle feeling a rush go through him like nothing had ever gone before and pulled open the door.
The ensuing chaos drove the silence right out of the room. Fin felt information overload fill his world and before he knew what was happening he was bring pulled out of the room and into the bedlam that followed.
"Marco, where have you been?" An older man with thick leather looking face and extremely bad teeth yelled.
"Who?" Fin asked in surprise.
"Get yo' butt out here and grab the rope we're about to attack!" He screamed.
"What the..." He stopped suddenly and looked around him. The ship was a mass of confusion and yelling. The large deck area filled with what seemed like hundreds of screaming men all running around in ordered chaos. The large mast towering high above the deck screamed under the pressure of the many men hanging from the riggings and the booms.
"MR. JEEVES... DROP THOSE SAILS...WE'VE GO IN LESS THEN A MINUTE!" A rather large man yelled from the far side of the deck.
"I CAP'N!" Jeeves bellowed back.
"MR. JARS... WHERE IS THAT CONFOUNDED BOY?"
The man that had grabbed him suddenly jumped away, "HE'S OV'R HERE CAPT'N, GOT 'IM WORKING ON STRENGTH'IN THE ROPES."
The captain began a long walk across the deck to where a nervous Mr. Jars was standing fidgeting his fingers. He stepped up in front of them, his big hulking figure blocking the remaining sun from view.
"MARCO, YOU'VE HID FROM ME FAR TOO LONG NOW!!" He bellowed.
Fins eyes finally adjusted to the blindness of staring into the sun when he recognized the voice.
"Oh my lord, Captain Blackwell is that you?" He shrilled then ran over to the man and wrapped his arms around him.
The gasps erupted everywhere.
