"Guys! Wait for me!" Sans panted, trying to keep up with the others. "Oof!" He tripped over a large rock and fell, landing in the dirt. He looked up, but his friends had already run off without him. He sighed and stood up, brushing off the dust.
Sans stared at the ground as he walked forward. He could see the footprints of his friends who had already passed.
He was ten years old now, and Papyrus had just started school. There was two schools in the Underground, one that went from Kindergarten to Grade 6, and another that went from 7 to 12. And then of course there was the college, which contained an annoying amount of Temmie's. Since Papyrus had started school, Sans had spent most of his free time watching over Papyrus and protecting him from the bullies. Poor Papyrus had no idea of what was going on in this school. And Sans was thankful for that.
Suddenly, a scream rang out through the air. Sans recognized it immediately.
Sans' eye flickered blue as he ran around the corner of the school, to the back. The teachers never check there at recess, so that's where most bullying takes place. Sure enough, there sat Papyrus, cornered by a group of Fifth Graders. He was backed right against the wall, and his clothes were patched with dirt, and was even torn in a couple of places. There was three bullies, and the tallest one bent down and picked Papyrus up by the collar of his shirt. His feet hung limp below him, multiple feet off the ground.
"So, baby bones, you ready for a big break?"
The tall bully laughed and high-fived the shortest one. Sans hadn't even realized what he said had been a joke.
"P-please! Let me go!" Papyrus rasped.
"Let you go? Ha! When Woshuas can fly."
"Please..." A little orange tear splattered onto the ground.
"Aww, is the baby crying? How about this for something to cry about?"
The bully dropped Papyrus and raised his fist to punch him. Papyrus quickly cowered away.
"Stop! Don't you dare touch him!" Sans growled, and stomped up to the bullies.
"Sans!" Papyrus exclaimed with relief.
"And what are you gonna do about it, twerp?" The bully jabbed a finger at Sans' chest threateningly.
"I'm gonna... Stop you!" Sans improvised. Damn it... He thought. I should have thought of something better than that...
"What, us? Stopped by you? A First Grader? As if!" The bully countered back.
"I'm in Fourth Grade!" Sans shouted. "And if you even lay so much as a finger on my brother, you're gonna have a bad time!"
"Aww, look! The baby came to protect his even more baby brother! How cute." The bully mocked.
Rage bubbled inside of Sans and he shot bones at the bullies. Some of them missed, since he was still working on his aim, but some of them hit, taking the bully's HP. Sans closed his eyes and summoned up every once of magic he had, channeling it all into his target. Once the bully's HP reached 1, Sans stopped firing and let the bullies go. They dashed away as fast as they could, and don't look back. Sans reached out and helped Papyrus up.
"Wow, Sans! That was so cool!" Papyrus said, running into Sans' arms. "Thank you." He said.
"You're welcome, Pap." Sans said calmly. Though he felt anything but calm, he had to let Pap believe everything was okay.
Sans didn't care the consequences. But if anyone ever tried to harm Papyrus like that again, they would be to Hell and back before they could even get another damn breath of sunlight. Even if Sans had to drag them there himself.
