ONE WEEK LATER. . .

~~~
Sans sighed, collapsing at the table with his head in his hands. Nothing new with school. Nothing new at home. Same old. A constant struggle, where every direction leads to yet another dead end. His grades were dropping; he couldn't find the strength to even try anymore. Every day was the same damn thing: wake up. Go to school. Feel like garbage. Go home. Feel like garbage. Go to Sleep. Have nightmares. And then, the entire cycle starts again. The only thing Sans had to live for at this point was Papyrus.
Papyrus. . .
Slowly, Sans lifted his head. And that's when he noticed it.
A note sitting on the table, dedicated to him.
It was from his father.
Carefully, Sans picked it up and unfolded it in his hands. Why would his father leave him a note? The note was written mainly in strange symbols; Sans recognized this language. His father had taught it to him, long ago. The language was called 'Hands'. Very few monsters in the Underground new of this language. It was almost like a secret way of communicating, one that even Papyrus wouldn't understand. Like a special bond between Sans and his dad. If only Sans could have that back. . . Quietly, he began to read.
Dear Sans,
I'm sorry. I know that I have not been good to you, and for that, I am sorry. I know that I have let you down. I am a terrible father, and I think you both would just be better off without me. That's why I have chosen to do this. I hope you know that I love you, and I am ever so proud of you both. I couldn't have ever asked for better sons than you. And no matter what life throws at you, I know you will be able to push through. No matter how hopeless you feel. No matter how immobile you are. I know you can do it. I know you can. Please, just . . .
Don't forget that.
Already, tears were streaming down Sans' face.
"No . . . no no . . . nonono . . . !" Sans dropped the note, racing out of the room and immediately heading for the Core.
"Sans, where are you going?" Papyrus asked as Sans passed him. Sans paused, turning urgently to Papyrus. Papyrus' eye sockets widened when he saw the tears staining Sans' face. "Come on Papyrus! We have to hurry!" He grabbed Papyrus' hand and pulled him into a run.
On the way to the Core, Sans caught a view of the Capitol and New Home. The power flickered as he ran past, and then a surge swept through the entire Underground, causing a blackout. This only made Sans move faster.
He burst into the Core, more dragging Papyrus than anything at this point. The power was going haywire, and there were sparks of electricity flying everywhere. This could only mean one thing.
Sans clenched Papyrus' hand even tighter as they entered the room with the bridge. The endless void below was glowing, sparkling with endless white flames. And there, was Sans' father, standing on top of the railing ready to jump off.
"NO!" Sans cried, tearing free from Papyrus' grasp and dashing to the edge. But he was too late. His father leapt into the swirling white void just as he made it to the railing, with Papyrus by his side. Sans screamed, desperately reaching out for his father. His father turned in midair to cast one last glance at his sons. Sans could see that even his eye sockets were filled with hurt. Sans collapsed next to Papyrus, comforting his crying brother. This must have been just as hard on his father as it was on Sans, right? It had to be, right?!
Or at least, Sans hoped it was right.
