Chapter 4

I change my dress from the dark blue one from yesterday into a pale green one and climb down my ladder. No one is in the kitchen. “Robbie! Nick! Scott!” I yell. I grab my one and only cloak and run outside.

I run towards the blacksmith shop. The black fabric of my cloak flows behind me. I knock on the door.

“Ryan! I know it's early, but have you seen Scott?” I ask as I walk in. Of course he is teaching Scott something.

“He's right here, if you're wondering,” Ryan says jokingly. Ryan's face is no longer bloody so you can actually see where he was hurt. There's a long scratch on his cheek and a short scratch  through his eyebrow. His right eye is black and his arms are bruised and scratched.

“Scott, why didn't you leave me a note?”

“I was coming over to ask about if he was still going to give me lessons and he asked me if I wanted a lesson right now.”

“Where are Nick and Robbie?”

“Working. They were called in to do an early shift.”

“Okay then. I'll be back later to give you lunch.”

“Thanks.” I stroll out of the shop. I go back to the house and make Robbie, Scott, and Nick their lunches. I leave them on the table. I just wanted to get them done now.

I walk to the spot in the forest where that wolf talked to me. I feel like I know that voice from somewhere. It couldn't be a regular wolf, it was too big. It had to be a werewolf. I notice there are werewolf prints on the ground. I look at the ground. “Werewolf prints,” I whisper to myself as if someone is watching me and I have to make sure they don't know what I'm saying.

I follow the trail of prints. All of a sudden they turn to human foot prints. “That's strange,” I tell myself. “The werewolf must have changed into human form, but why?” I follow the foot prints. I follow them all the way back to the village, then the trail goes cold. “That means the wolf must have gone into Caraway,” I say.

I walk back home and grab my brothers' lunches. I bring the first one to Robbie in the forest. He's sitting on a tree trunk. “Here,” I hold the bag in front of him.

“Thanks.”

“Your welcome. By the way you better apologize to Ryan by dark. Understand?”

“You're not my mother.”

I stare him straight in the eyes and say, "well you were not my father!"

“Fine," he grunts, "I'll apologize.”

“Good.” I walk to the bakery. I hand Nick his lunch. He looks into the bag and sighs. “What? Did I use the wrong kind of cheese on your sandwich again?”

“No. I just was hoping you would some kind of sweets in my lunch.”

“After what you did?”

I start to walk out. “Almost forgot. I want you to apologize to Ryan by dark. Bye.” I  leave before he can say anything. I walk past the well and into the blacksmith shop. “Hi guys." I hand Scott his lunch. He starts gulping it down. I walk to Ryan.

“I didn't know if you made your own lunch, so here.” I put the bag into his arms.

“Thanks, you didn't have to do that though.”

“Did you make your own lunch?” I ask.

“No,” He says looking ashamed.

“You're a good actor. Hope you enjoy your lunch.”

“I will.” I walk out of the blacksmith shop and back home.

I start to make dinner. I finish dinner in about two hours. I stroll outside. The sky is a bright blue and the clouds are a bright pink. Nick and Robbie are wandering in my direction. I stand in front of the door. “Did you apologize?” I ask.

“Yes,” Nick says.

“Have you seen Scott? He's not home yet,” I ask.

“Sorry Jules, haven't seen him,” Robbie answers.

“That's unusual. He's always on time. I'm going to look around town. You go on inside.”

“Just get home soon. It's going to get dark soon,” Nick implies.

“Okay.” I saunter outside. “Scott!” I yell. I wander around the village. The sky is dark blue-black. The stars shine brightly, like little diamonds in the sky. The huge moon shines brightly. A sickly, red glow beams down upon me.

"Damn!" I mumble harshly. I start to wander back to the the house. I hear growling behind me.

I turn around and see two, big , yellow eyes look at me. A larger than life wolf stands in front of me. It's fur is bright brown. I whimper, "Not again."

"It's me."

"I have never seen you in my entire life." "Actually you've known me your entire life. It's me. . .Scott."

"Scott?" And I'm suppose to believe him because? but I do. . .

"Yes." I run forward and hug the huge wolf. "You worried the crap out of me. Where have you been? Okay, stupid question." He nuzzles my head. All of a sudden the white wolf from last night tackles Scott out of my arms.

"SCOTT!"  I shriek. Scott falls to the ground. The other wolf walks away from him and towards me.

I breathe heavily. Scott starts to get up. He starts bounding toward the white wolf. He jumps onto the wolf's back. It growls and starts snapping at Scott's muzzle. Scott starts digging his gigantic claws into it's back. Blood starts oozing out of the holes. The wolf howls in pain. It starts trying to buck my brother off and succeeds. Scott is thrown of the wolf's back and slides on the ground.

The white wolf growls and starts striding towards my brother. I pull out my dagger from my boot and sprint in the direction of the wolf. I leap, miss the wolf's back, and land on the ground next to it's foot. I lift up my dagger and slam in down into the wolf's paw. It growls, then whines. It looks at me and looks sorrowful. I feel sorry for it knowing this wolf is also a human.

We stare at each other for a few long moments then it looks as if it's almost grinning. It leaps onto my werewolf brother and starts to rip him to shreds. The brown wolf just lays there looking at me as I start to bawl and and scream at the same time. The white wolf looks at me for the last time then bounds out of the village and into the forest. I crawl over to Scott, who is now in human form. Blood is covering his body completely. I set my head on his chest and cry softly.

After a couple of hours of crying I kiss Scott's forehead, stand up, and start to walk to the house. After a few steps I sprint home, tears once again streaming down my face.

"Where have you been?" Robbie asks.

"I was outside." "Where's Scott?" Nick asks.

"Scott is dead." I go up the ladder to my so called room and lay down on my bed. Scott was always the good brother. Now he's gone.
