“I call Jessica Mackenzie to the stand”
She looked across to me but I couldn’t meet her eyes….this would be a test of character for her.
True Lies?
“Jessica…..according to the evidence that was presented by Elixir Johanssen she was shown a video of the two of you having sexual intercourse…….is this true?”
“Yes it is”
“Can you explain to the court the proceedings that led to this occurring?”
“Catherine Baker came to me….she told me that Elixir had made threats again her….she wanted me to do something about these threats”
“And what did you do?”
“I gave her two of the pills…..the sexual dysfunction ones”
“But those pills would simply increase the libido”
“Yes that is correct”
“But surely giving someone a pill to enhance their sexual prowess would only do that…..Elixir is a teacher….why would she have sex with you?”
“She wouldn’t….but the pills had other properties”
“What type of properties?”
“They acted as an inhibitor…..to make the person taking them become unaware of their surroundings”
“You mean…..like hypnosis?”
“Yes”
“And how would you know this?”
“Catherine told me…..she said if I use the pills on Elixir that she would improve my grades”
“So she asked you to do this as a sort of bribe?”
“Yes”
“And did your grades…..improve?”
“No”
“Why not?”
“She didn’t improve them”
“So let me get this straight you used two pills to hypnotise the then girlfriend of your mother in order to gain extra credits for your studies”
“That’s correct”
“But you didn’t get the extra credits”
“That’s correct too”
“Why would someone want you to do something like that and then do nothing when it was accomplished…..I think it is more likely that you wanted to seduce Elixir and demonstrate the full power of the pills yourself”
“But that’s not how it happened”
“That’s the way it looks to the court”
I could see that Jessica was desperate not to cry but Arthur was being relentless in his questioning.
“You wanted to have sex with Elixir and you found the only way possible to do it…..thats the truth is it not?”
She paused.
“Its true I wanted to have sex with her……but I would never use such a depraved way to get that…..Catherine made me do it…..you have seen the truth in what she was doing”
“From my point of view I see a woman who was desperate to preserve her own secret…..I think you wanted to help Catherine…..because you wanted her sexually”.
“Its not true”
“How can you prove it…..your word means nothing”
“I can prove it….I have a copy of the disc”.
