Adriana.
I was now in the second last class of the day and I was so ready to go home. Don't get me wrong, this school seems like it could be fun but it's just dragging out waaay too much for my liking. I was currently stood in the middle of the school's soccer field for gym along with around thirteen other girls.
The boys -and some girls- had opted out to play lacrosse.
I rubbed my hands across my bare arms as I listened to the teacher's instructions. I was currently wearing a black loose t-shirt, a pair of blue Nike shorts and black Nike shoes along with my white jumper tied around my waist.
I pulled my black hair tie off of my wrist and raised my hands to my hair, pulling it up into a tight ponytail to keep it out of my face. "Okay, teams!" The coach spoke before throwing around some blue bibs.
Luckily, I didn't get one. I hated wearing those things, you never know who's been sweating in them. "Anderson, Reid! You guys are in goals!" I watched the two girls groan before jogging to opposite sides of the pitch to each of their goals.
I took my given position as a right midfielder and stood in the spot, pulling my hair tighter until I felt it not going in any further. The game started and the ball was passed to my instantly. I quickly ran up field with it before switching it off to the left striker. I moved my hands into a praying position and held them over my lips as I watched the girl kick the ball.
Everyone in our team cheered as the ball hit the back of the opposing net. We played for another fifteen minutes or so before I noticed there were a few girls sat on the bench, looking bored out of their minds.
I quickly jogged over and switched with one of the girls, sitting down and taking my water from my bag, taking a sip. I watched the game, sighing slightly when I realised we were going no where fast.
I turned my head to the left and watched as the boys played lacrosse a the other side of the field. I fiddled with the wrapper on my bottle as I watched the boys all charge into each other and knock each other off their feet. That looked a hell of a lot more fun than what was happening on our field right now.
I decided to switch to lacrosse after talking to the coach about it who said I could switch if I wanted. I walked over to the lacrosse side and towards their coach who had crazy black hair and looked like he was freaking out.
I stopped walking as I reached his side and waited for a few seconds as he yelled out to some guy named 'Greenberg' "Uhh, coach?" I asked and he looked at me. "Coach Smith said I could switch to lacrosse if that's cool with you?" I spoke with a slight waver in my voice at his intense stare.
"Yeah that's fine, go grab a jersey." He motioned to a small pile of red jerseys lying on the ground. I pouted slightly before walking over to the pile and picking the one from the top, pulling it over my head. "Guuuys!" The coach called whilst clapping his hands.
Everyone stopped their practice and either jogged or walked across to where the coach stood, blowing his whistle. "We have a new player. I want you guys." He paused and pointed to boys with McCall, Lahey and Dunbar printed on the back of their jerseys. "To be careful. No knocking her out - especially you Lahey!" He pointed his finger accusingly at the boy and he raised his hands in innocence.
He clapped again and everyone wandered back out to the field. "Okay, you're team red," He motioned to my jersey and I glanced at the other players, seeing some of them wearing a blue bib over their jerseys. "Stick near Yukimura, she'll show you the ropes."
I nodded as he passed me a helmet and I pulled it over my head, looking for 'Yukimura'. I eventually found her and walked over to her. "Hey, I'm Adriana! Just started here.. I haven't seen you around before?" I spoke as I moved my helmet from over my face so she could hear me.
I noticed she was Japanese-American and i'm pretty sure she was the one making out with that other guy in the hallway. "Oh, okay. I'm Kira! I'm a senior though so that's probably why. We have gym at the same time so the coaches just put our classes together." I nodded at her words and pulled my helmet back down by the black bars.
I raised the stick I held as the coach blew the whistle and 'McCall' flicked the ball up from the ground. Everyone instantly started running around and I was in a whirlwind. I had only ever played Lacrosse once before and it was messy.
The ball was launched towards my direction by an opposite player and I jumped into the air, raising my stick and catching the ball. I was actually amazed that I caught that.
I heard yelling and I snapped back into focus, looking around for a free player before throwing the ball across to 'Lahey' who caught it easily and threw it towards Dunbar before charging into the boy who was running towards Dunbar.
I winced at the sight of Lahey jumping across the field and into the poor boy who was knocked back harshly. Jeesh, i'm glad he was on my team - I wouldn't want to be facing that. Kira them ran from behind me and down a free area, raising her stick and Dunbar threw it across the field to her.
McCall ran beside her hand shoulder-barged anyone who came near her. Oh my God, lacrosse is violent. I cheered and raised my hands in the air as Kira launched the ball under the goal keepers legs before he could move.
We played for another twenty minutes or so before the coach blew his whistle and everyone jogged back in. I pulled my helmet off of my head and pulled my pony tail out, running my hands through my hair tiredly.
"Nice guys! Red team you destroyed it today!" Everyone in red team cheered, high fiving and I even got high fived by three people. The coach said a few more words before everyone began to wander off of the field. "You."
I turned as the coach spoke to see him pointing to me. I weaved through the people making it back to the bench and held my helmet under my arm as I waited for the coach to speak. "Peters."
"Alright, Peters. You played well today. Was this your first time?" I nodded. I may have played once before but I had never actually went for it. "It was good, if you wanna think about joining the lacrosse team, we'd love to have you."
I smiled at his words with a slight nod before taking the jersey off and placing my stick, jersey and helmet back where I had gotten them before walking back to the soccer side, still breathing rather heavily.
I grabbed my water and my bag, glancing back at the girls who were still playing before walking back into the school towards the girl's changing rooms when someone bumped into me. I stumbled slightly but the person gripped onto my arms, steadying me again.
"Woah, you okay?"
I opened my eyes after my slight panic to see Liam stood in front of me.. with no shirt. I quickly diverted my eyes from his sweat-covered six pack. "Liam hey.. sorry I didn't see you there." I muttered, looking back to his face which held a smirk. "Were you playing?" I asked, remembering that I hadn't seen him.
He held up the jersey he previously held in his arms, showing me the back which read Dunbar; 09. "Oh! Okay.. I didn't know that was you."
"Didn't expect you to." He shrugged slightly and lowered his jersey again, throwing it over his shoulder. "You played today right?" I nodded. "Yeah I seen, you were really good." He smiled at me and I smiled back.
"Dunbar!" A voice called and Liam and I both looked behind him at the person. He quickly threw his arm over Liam's shoulder, looking to me with a smile. He had curly hair and dreamy blue eyes. "Hey, nice to meet you. Isaac Lahey."
Ah, so he is the crazy dude.
I smiled back to him and shook his outstretched hand. He wiggled his eyebrows and I moved my hand back from his, emitting a sigh from him. "Anyway, come Dunbae, Scotty needs to chat with you." I smiled slightly at the nickname Isaac had given him.
"Catch you later, Adriana." I nodded at his words before side-stepping around him and walking into the girl's changing room which was relatively empty aside from Kira and three other girls who I didn't know.
Dunbae, I like it.
