No magic? No problem

Chapter 4

Gale POV

"Look out" Luna shots landing on my pushing me to ground just as a something swag past where are heads would be.

I should be more focused on what was trying to behead us but all I can think about is how close Luna is to me and her scent. It's overwhelming. She pushes lily grabs her and flies her into the air and I get a nose full of fresh air her scent still engraved in my mind. Wired because we have been best friends since she was born. I know her scent by heart. Paper and chocolate. A strange combination that smells yet so wonderful. The thing swings at me again and I snap myself from my thoughts and turn towards the whatever it is focusing my attention on its attacks. It only comes after me I would say it only goes after magical energy but that means it would go after lily being that she's a cat that can fly. I cover my ears as this thing lets out a deafening scream and it goes down. Luna stands behind the thing holding a small stone. I walk over to her minding the pest that has now grown to the size of a small garden mouse. It scampers away when I touch it with the toe of my boot. Luna holds  a small green stone in her hand.

"Looks to me to be nothing more than just an emerald. I'll have to show it to gramps when we get back and see what he thinks." She says as she puts the stone in a small pocket in her bag.

"We should get heading back now since the thing is taken care off and it's too late to be getting on a train." I say grabbing lily who is already fast asleep from Luna.

She nods in agreement and turns heading back to the place where we are staying. I walk beside her not saying a word and not knowing what to say. I can tell by the look on her face that she is thinking hard about something. I don't want to ask, but I want to know what. So going against everything that my brain is screaming at me not to do I ask.

"So whatcha thinking about Luna?"

"Oh, nothing much just a bit about the mission. I noticed how the mouse giant only went after you and I figured it was because of your magical energy, but that means it would have come at lily too. So I was thinking it had to do something with you being a human with magic were an animal he felt more at ease with even though it could have been a predator. It knew that it was safer with Lily than with something unknown. Now the only question that's left is how did this little gem turn an ordinary garden animal into a huge raging beast. I would guess a spell, but I can't think of any that would have such a huge affect or why someone would even do such a thing. I mean no one was hurt but it did cause a bit of trouble. So I guess it was just some kid playing around with magic and it got out of hand. I also can't think of how a kid could know such a spell and why they would even what to cast such a spell, but who knows." She says

"Well, you're smart enough to figure it out, but why don'tcha just give it a rest and get some sleep. You'll figure it out in the morning." I say

"Yeah maybe."  

I throw my arm around her shoulder and pull her into a one armed hug.

"Come on now we both know you'll figure it out but first we both need some rest and we'll head back out to Fairy Tail tomorrow and show gramps the stone and he'll tell us whether or not to be worried, besides it's like you said it's probably just some kid playing around with his daddy's spell book or something like that." I say

"Yeah, but what's with an emerald? You can't even find these anymore in any town and why place a spell on any rock it would have been much easier to just place it on part of an animal then onto a rock and hope it lands when and where you want it." she says her eyebrows furled together and I can almost she the gears in her brain turning. I let out a small low chuckle

"Like I said probably some kid playing around with daddy's toys. Nothing to be flustered about as for the emerald they might not be found in towns anymore, but they are mined and used for jewelry so it could have broken off a necklace or something like that and a kid could have found it and used it to play with and bam you got yourself a giant rat." I say

"Yeah well..."

"Hush you're thinking about this why too hard. It's like three in the morning and you look like your death walking around with those bags under your eyes so let's just keep heading back and when we get back you are going to climb into that bed , wrap yourself in some nice warm blankets, and yer gonna get some shut eye even if I have to knock ya unconscious." I fake threaten holding up my fist. 

It gets her to laugh a bit and agree with me so we keep walking back to the house and once we geCt there Luna does what I told her to do and as soon as her head hits the pillow she is out like a light. Lily climbs on top of her curled up into a little ball on her hip and me? Well, I sit on the chair and take my time undoing my boots and quietly and carefully placing them into a corner then ever more quietly and carefully I lay down next Luna and pull some blankets over me and close my eyes falling asleep.

Yay! An update! School started for me a while ago and trying to keep up with homework is a bit harder this year, but everything is starting to shimmer down so hopefully I'll be able to update more! Loves to you all! Stay Fresh!
