No magic? No problem

Chapter 8

I was wrong today was not going to be better than yesterday. Gale ended up getting some sort of dragon disease that is very contagious only to dragons and slayers so all the dragon slayers even from surrounded guilds all leave and go on missions getting as far from Gale as they could. Lia and Levy went on a mission the day before so I'm the one who stays with Gale to take care of him. Which I am right now as he shivers even though he's under a pile of blankets and I'm laying with him trying to keep him warm. After he falls asleep I go back to cleaning the house. Dishes get done but I hold off on trying to get the laundry done because I know it will just have to be redone over and over again until Gale is done being sick. 

"Luna..." He calls out weakly and I make my way into the living room sitting on the chair next to the couch which has become his home the past few hours. 

"Yes? Are you feeling better?" I ask him placing my hand on his forehead

"No." He croaks out

"What do you need honey?" I ask 

"Water and maybe some food." He says his eyes open slowly and I nod getting up.

I go into the kitchen and start making food for the both of us while I fill a two glasses with water. I load our plates with sandwiches and crackers and our bowls with soup. Putting them all on a tray and bringing it to him. He still is awake when I enter the living room which surprises me but none the less I set the tray down and Gale tries to sit up and I have to help him pushing some pillows behind his back so he doesn't have to work as hard. I can tell how much he hates this usually because he's the one taking care of me. I can also tell he loves all the attention he's getting but would prefer to receive it in better conditions. We eat in silence until he is finished. I start to gather the empty dishes but he grabs my hand and I look up at him pain written clearly in his eyes.

"What's wrong?" I ask concern filling my voice 

"I can't do anything." He whines 

"Well, I hope your breathing okay." I joke trying to lighten the mood

"No that's not what I mean! I hurt all over and I can't even sit up on my own." He complains like a three-year-old as he covers his face with his arms. 

"That's because you're sick. Your body is using most of its energy fighting off all the bad things in you." I say as I move behind him starting to massage his shoulders and back. He doesn't reply only leans back into my hands. I start to read to him a book I have set up so I can read and message him at the same time. Lily comes into the room wearing a mask and I give her a look. 

"Sorry, but I can't risk it." She says 

"It affects dragons and slayers not cats with wings and the ability to talk." I reply 

"You forgot super adorable." She says handing my a bag with painkillers, sleeping pills, and ice packs 

"What's in the bag?" Gale asks trying to peek into it

"Things we humans use when magic healing isn't available." I reply putting the ice pack on his head and forcing some painkillers down his throat despite all his protest. I also added a few sleeping pills the effects of them work really fast because within ten minutes he's snoring away on the couch. 

I grab Lily and take her outside leaving the door open so I can watch inside the house.

"So why did Wendy and Aura have to go if they both can heal and then Gale can be healed within what ten minutes?" Lily asks hover by my head

"Apparently if they even look at him they'll be sick and just like him lying on the couch in pain. So instead of attack the dragon part of the disease they said to attack the human part of it meaning his body." I say  

"Sounds like fun for you." she says before trying to fly off unfortunately for her I grab onto her and pull her into my chest holding her to me. She squirms and tries to get out of my grasp 

"Aww, you think you're going to leave me here alone with a sick dragon slayer? What if he burns the house down and I get trapped inside?" I ask 

"I think you got the wrong family sounds like more like Natsu and Layla." She says still trying to get away 

"Well, what if his mood swings are so bad he gets mad at me and does something awful." I try

"Yeah, nice try we both know he loves you too much for that to happen." She replies and I roll my eyes letting her go

"Sure whatever leave me all alone." I say sitting on the tree swing that's been on the tree for as long as I can remember. It has actually grown into the tree the rope and branch becoming one. Lily flies over me in a small circle. 

"I only meant I was going to get more human medicine." She says 

"And tell me how weird is it for a talking flying cat to go into a store and ask for human medicine?" I ask her smiling 

"Very so now I'll be off." She says smiling back before flying off

I go back into the house and cleaning the house moving into Lia and Emma's room preparing myself for the worst and finding it. Dishes, clothes, and random other things lay everywhere. I check under the bed and nearly scream when I see something move. I find out it was only something collapsing under the weight of everything under there. I go back to cleaning and within a few hours, the room is spotless along with Gales. Lily returns with more medicine and Gale wakes back up to eat beg both of us to cuddle with him to which with both give in. 

Hopefully, he feels better before the games... It would be a shame for him to miss out... Not to mention for all the other dragon slayers. I think as I fall asleep slowly.
