"You what."
"I didn't know!" I cried. "He didn't wear his rosary, a-and he didn't know I was a demon, I don't...Nox, what do I do?!"
"We have to tell Gabriel." He sighed angrily. "Christ Nyx..."
"Please, no." I whimpered, grabbing ahold of his arm as he tried to leave. "What will he think of me...?"
"If anything, he'll know how to handle the situation." Nox gripped my hand for a moment before pulling me out into the hall and down to the first floor.
We walked down the hall a ways and to a door, looking just like the other doors in the home. Upon opening though, it revealed a semi-large library, with books of every shape and size among the shelves. I saw Gabriel behind a desk, his feet propped up as he read from a book that seemed to be made from...human skin. It was unnerving to say the least. He placed it down when he saw us though, and it didn't take him long to realize something was very wrong.
"Nyx? You look...excuse my harshness, horrible." His eyebrows furrowed.
"I...I messed up." I felt my lip tremble. "I...I...um..."
"Want me to say it?" Nox offered, and I nodded vigorously. "Nyx got drunk and banged a Hunter."
"NOX!" I screeched, feeling my body freeze up again. It was almost like a static shot that paralyzed me for a moment.
"You said you wanted me to say it." He shrugged, looking back to Gabriel. "That Ryker guy, the cop, she went to a party with him last night."
"Did he know you were-?"
"No." I bit my lower lip. "I didn't know he was a Hunter until this morning. I was having seizures from...I guess you call it a panic attack? I was completely frosted over and I couldn't move, he came out and thought someone was doing it to me."
"Was it just a spur of the moment?" Gabriel asked quietly, and I shook my head.
"I was in love with him." I whispered. "I trusted him."
"I...I don't think he's going to do anything." Gabriel sighed. "I've seen the way he looks at you. The precious gleam like they'd lay down their life for yours."
"No." Nox interrupted, shaking his hand at Gabriel. "No, this isn't like Morrigan. He's a Hunter, she was a Scribe. He's going to do what he does best and hunt us down, the strongest of the Yuki's. We're fucked."
"Nox!" Gabriel said sternly, surprised by his sons outburst.
"You saw what happened with him! They're relentless, they won't let us go!" His anger had pushed him to the brink of tears. I'd been pushed out of the conversation altogether.
"Have faith!" Gabriel demanded, slamming his hand down on the table. "Jesus Nox, you of all people should know what it's like to have faith."
"He isn't a demon." Nox trembled as he spoke, his hands clenched at his sides. "He's a monster."
My brother turned around and sped from the room, slamming the door behind him. The tension in the room was up in smoke instantly, and I collapsed into a chair while Gabriel took his seat again. I couldn't help but bury my head in my hands to try and hide my shame.
"I'm not mad, Nyx."
"I know." I whispered, my voice hoarse against my raw throat. "I'm mad at myself."
"There's was no way you could've known."
"There were enough red flags that I ignored." I looked up, feeling the soreness around my eyes. "All the cops were wearing green rosaries, the paramedics blue ones. His scars, his sudden appearance in town, the blatant mystery of how he got to be here. He knew everything about me and I barely even knew his name."
