Dearest Splash,

How have you been doing lately? Maybe you’re getting tired of my stories. Today, instead of boring you with this, I’m going to tell you about my friend and her unrequited love. Just so you’ll get a breather from us.

So as I was saying, my friend (let’s name her Ella) is in love with her best friend “Lucy’s” best guy friend, who we’ll call Edward. Ella and Edward met through Lucy. Ella and Lucy have been best friends from way back, and they couldn’t be more different. Lucy is the bookworm–demure, always tries to be nice to people-while Ella is more of the tough chick, sporty, and strong-willed. Lucy wears her heart on her sleeve but Ella will never be caught crying or being soft. Ella knew how to be tough and protect herself from emotional pain. She promised herself she’d never fall in love unless the guy falls first.

One day, Ella joined a fun run and was getting ready for the race when she spotted Edward in the crowd and approached him. She couldn’t believe how fateful that day was.

Who would have thought that the two of them would be joining that same fun run, right? She was such a hopeless romantic that, somehow, in her mind, she made this coincidence a huge deal but never told anyone about it.

The two decided to run together for fun. And just when they were reaching the 10-kilometer mark, she tripped on her untied shoe laces.

Everyone else ran past her but when Edward noticed she wasn’t beside him, he turned and went back for her. He helped her get up, knelt in front of her, and tied her shoe laces for her.

Being the hopeless romantic that she was, she imagined she were Cinderella with the Prince fitting the glass slipper on her feet. And when Edward looked up to her with a smile, his eyes were caught by sunlight, and there was nothing more she could do. She was head over heels in love.

He helped her run until they reached the 10-kilometer mark with her arm over his shoulder. For Ella, it was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for her. It was the first time she let herself be rescued.--be seen as weak, be helpless.

Since then, she believed he was the one. But Edward has his eyes set on someone else: Lucy. But… Lucy only thought of him as a friend material and nothing more.

Edward doesn’t want to give up on Lucy even if she’s already happy with another. He hopes someday Lucy will realize he was the one for her.

Ella never told anyone about her feelings for Edward, not even her best friend. She knew she was being stupid for falling in love with him, that he was being nice to her because she was Lucy’s best friend. She knew she fell for something she only imagined. She made his image look so much better in her mind—like the Prince Charming in any fairy tale. She knew it was all just make believe.

She cannot and will not let anybody know that she was that kind of girl. She had to be tough and indifferent to her feelings. She has always known what his reaction would be if he finds out about her feelings for him and she will definitely not let herself be rejected. She just had to play her part well and bottle up her feelings.

But after everything, she’s still in love and hoping that someday, Edward will see her as something more. She hoped he will. Eventually.

I don’t really know how Ella’s story will end but I sure am glad that I finally found you, and when I stepped into your world, you weren’t too busy looking at someone else.

If it were me, waiting in vain, I know I’d go crazy. I hate the idea of not being able to tell you how much I love you, but I will do the same thing and wait for you even if it means getting hurt.

Every time you go home and I was not the one you kiss goodnight… Every time you wake up in the morning and I am not the first one you think of… I will not make it all about me because you are the only reason I would want to keep on existing.

So I will wait for you ‘til the day you decide to come back and complete me.

                           Hoping,

                           Sparks

P.S. I always thought Ella’s theme song was Breakeven by The Script. Heartbreaking.
